Hey everyone,

I was driving my 1990 Land Cruiser LJ73 today when I heard a flushing or rushing liquid sound coming from the engine. It sounded like liquid moving quickly, like the gates of a dam opening :D It lasted just a few seconds and then stopped completely.

it felt like there was air trapped or there was a clog and the system suddenly opened this clog or got rid of the air.

Some details:
  • RPM was steady, I wasn’t accelerating or pushing the engine. it was still steady after the sound, my drive was spotless.
  • Oil pressure and engine temperature were normal.
  • No changes in performance after the sound.
  • No visible leaks or anything unusual under the car after parking it.
Could it be related to the cooling system, heater core, or something else? Any insights would be appreciated!

Is there anything i should do? I checked the coolant level and it looks fine.

anyone has any idea?

heater core perhaps....?
hows is and was the heater function?

The heater was working properly. I will check today if it still does. As the weather is mild here, I havent been using it since a few weeks

If it were mine I'd drain the coolant. If it comes out clean, reuse it. If it comes out full of rusty muck, then I'd fill and drain with water a few times and fill it back up with the good stuff (red) from Toyota.
would I know if the coolant is clean or not without drainnig it? looking at the reservoir maybe?

Because when I look at the coolant in the reservoir, it looks very clear and the reservoir is clean as well.

Turn the heat on high, drive it. Look at the overflow bottle the next morning. If its empty or very low, fill and repeat. Likely just have air in the lines and didn't have the heater open/on to circulate the entire system.
