The 40 series is Flowmaster's 'loudest'. I have a set on my '67 Mustang. Ear plugs required for long trips.

I doubt they'd sound good behind a I6.

I can't say for sure but I'm guessing they designed the 40 with non-catalyst muscle cars in mind. Do a search for muffler. I think some guys here are running Borla's.

Well if anyone here has a Borla, please fill me in on the model, price, sound and how loud it is. Thanks.

I had a 40 series on my 71 fj40 with a 2f and it sounded great. Chevy hasn't made a Z71 with a I-6, it has to be a v8 or v6. I don't think that the 40 series flowmaster would be a good match to the fzj80 due to a little more noise.

Alright. With is Chevy it sounded really quiet and really good. But maybe he told me t he wrong series. I dont want to go spending money on a muffler thats gonna sound bad. Anyone ahve any sugestions?

I put on off the shelf Borla on my 92, has a nice rumble. I had a flowmaster 40 before and it would drive me crazy on long trips as it was much to loud resonating into the interior. The borla is totally different with not much noise coming into the cabin. Engine feels peppier as the engine seems to stay in gear longer than before.

50 series SUV model

This is what I got... & got rid of that resonator on the tail pipe (below back bumper area)... sounds good I think... nice throaty growl @ low throttle... but gets quieter as ya speed off... mild interior noise when on the hwy... but I like hearing my vehicles...

50 Series seems like its too quite for me. Ive read a ton of reviews lately on them and hear about people putting it on Yota Tacomas V6 and V6 4.6L Mustangs. Now with the LX450 being a 4.5L I cant imagine a huge sound difference. I think im gonna try out tohe 40 series and see what happens.

I have a 40 series on mine....it is a 3FE yes, but I also have the cats removed and was still not very loud until I cut the tailpipe off right after the muffler! Which on a 92 is right next to the front control arm bushing on the RR lower Control arm. Before that my engine was very noticably louder than my exhaust! Now it is pretty loud in the cabin but actually quieter at 3000rpm than it is a 2000. Nice rumble at idle but loud on the highway. I think how much noise your tires make will effect how loud you think it is.

Absolutely love mine. Dual inlet/outlet flowmaster duals from the cats back....Some drone between 45-50...Great above 50 and at highway speed....

Has made a difference on mpg (avg 14-15) in a well tuned 92' 80, runs cooler overall, and sounds great IMHO....

How loud are they? A video or sound clip would GREATLY help. Im looking for something thats gonna make a small rumble but not anything really loud. I want muscle toned, not loud and killer truck toned.

They are not loud and have a good rumble at idle and muscular tone....IMHO they sounds great on my I-6 3-FE. Does have a drone between 45 and 50 but above and below that sounds great....No rice spitter sound... Has made a big difference w/truck running cooler while stressing it (pulling trailers) and fuel economy by 10-20%. I now average 14-15 mpg...

I agree, a 50 series w/ delta flow is the way to go if you dont want it to sound redneck or obnoxious it will be very mellow but throaty sounding. Good in my opinion. My best friend had that setup on his '94 before he wrecked it. BTW if you are in memphis i still have some parts from my bud's 94 that just wrecked, namely the OME lift and tires if you might be interested. Where was the pic in your avatar taken? Looks like Callis Creek or the infamous Wolf River Bottoms.

What inch tubing is the exhaust by the way? And relatively what was the price of yours?

Haha it was out at Callis Creek. If that muffler is on there Id love to see if I cant grab it. I have a sawz all and would just need to know where the location is.

2 1/4 tubing i believe, but dont hold me to that. the shop i do business with gets pretty good deals on exhaust stuff and has a tubing bender and access to aluminized tubing. they are working on an exhaust for my BMW right now. the markup in exhaust stuff is unbelievable mufflers and tubing is so cheap, it is the B.s. labor rates that get you.
