Hey guys , I'm not down in this area too often. Trying to bypass bozeman and cruiser on to my camp spot tonight.

Is flathead pass an accessible road? Forest service map calls it FR6931 it's just a bit NW of bridger bowl

Shows it as a dashed line and I don't want to waste a drive up to get gated off . Looks like it runs down the power lines maye

Anyone been up that way ?

This is probably too late but, Flathead Pass is accessible. It gets gaged when the ranch at the bottom is moving cattle once in a while.

Good info, thanks. Yeah I found another thread where a gate was mentioned so I didn't want to waste the time. We'll have to hit it next time we are in the area.

It's open, but the runoff has been bad this year. Recently, I had to drag two boulders off to the side of the road with the winch. Nailed my rear (armor) bumper on a further exposed rock and chewed up a rim. This is the most technical I've seen it. Def doable with a built truck, but expect some damage unless you're roll'n on 35's.

Dang, good info thanks for sharing. I won't be back down that area for a while but will give it hell next time we are there.

absolutely not. if I wouldn't have killed my geo metro, i deff would have made it in that one.

For what it is worth, I had a friend in town a few weeks back, and we hit up Flathead as it was close by. It seemed to have the usual obstacles. Mostly the short off camber section. We knew we were going to be hit by a storm (of course that feels like every day this year). When we got to the top, we were lightly hailed on. Then it turned to decent rain, so we headed back down. On the way down, the trail turned into a small creek (it was actually kinda cool to watch). I wasn't giving it much thought as we were driving down to pay attention to the changing conditions. I even hit a rock on departure, which was a little surprising, even in my trail limo. By the time we got down to the valley, it was a pretty intense down pour.

...long story short, my buddy realized he lost his wallet, and we assumed there is a chance he dropped it at the top of the trail. Soooooooo, the next morning (just over 12 hours later) we retraced our steps back up the hill. I was completely shocked that the trail looked completely different! I have never had to "work" to get up this trail, and we had a small section that was surprising challenging. I think I know the exact two boulders Saul had to drag off the trail, I think I just drug my sliders across them (even after I embarrassingly stacked some rocks!)

Just wanted to share my fun experience.

In.

That's what has happened to Pipestone. It is got some rougher sections in places that used to be easy.

I ran Flathead Pass for the first time this afternoon. The West side certainly had some challenging spots, including a couple of places where I had to try a couple of different lines to get through, but I made it just fine in my Prado. Only thing I touched was the side exit exhaust, just a light scrape on a rock. Having open diffs and 31" tires makes it quite a fun trail.

I was thinking about heading up there sometime next week. I have a friend drive it a few days ago and he said it was surprisingly tricky, as he hadn't been there in 10+ years. The 33's I sold him really helped out, and he had called to say "thanks" 😅. I rode my bike up the Corbly trailhead a few days ago, and I was shocked at how the water has affected that road, which makes me think that Flathead will be similar. Should be a good time!
