I went wheeling this past weekend on some private property in Dawsonville GA with the GA cruisers and it was a blast. The trails were tight and some pretty difficult for an 80 to make through and I ripped off a fender flare. So today I said the hell with it and took all of them off. So now it's time for some of that truck bedding stuff for the sides. What brand should I go about getting? Linex? Herculiner? Prices? Any good or bad experiences?
There are lots of threads in the cruiser tech section about it, search. Brands mostly depend on if you want to do it yourself or pay to have it done.
Damn it Josh. This was one thing I had planned that would differentiate our trucks. There is a reason I didn't tell you i was planning on doing it
I forbid you from using black. I called it first . I hear the Line-X place down in Midtown is now offering a rainbow coating... I would give them a call.
can't be that hard to put on yur self. can you use masking tape? can you scuff up the paint a little?
then roll it on or spray it. go down to the local auto shop and pick up a brand. you gotta do something yur self on that rig, urban can't do it all.
Have it done professionaly. The Durabak or Herculiner stuff looks like cow sh@*&it after a couple of years. They go chalcky and fade. Also the texture if not nice. Line-x is by far the nicest and most consistent texture. Rino Lining is softer but more blobs.
There are also a number of other companies doing it. Pretty much have to see the samples, then decide on who you want to go beat up on price.
Supposedly Line-X guarantees their's for life against gouges, scapes etc.. don't know if that's only for bed linings, but seems like it's all the same. Run a search with username NorCalDoug. He had his sides done and there are some pics floating around somewheres. He beat you all to the black though...

Not that Christo needs anyone at all to confirm what he says, but i can totally confirm that the Jerkuliner, i mean Herculiner is no where near the product that the Line-X and other professional products are. Several years ago I Herculined the rear of my Runner from the back of the front seats to the tailgate. I made some custom 1/8 aluminum panels for the back of the rear seats and also a custom 1/8 Al panel for the tailgate, then, I herculined the entire thing. As some who know me might imagine, I totally prepped the hell through every step and followed the process perfectly. At first it looked incredible - much more texture than the pro products which I actually liked as it helped my dog stay stuck to the floor as well as the cargo stuff stored there too. A friend with a toyota pickup loved it and asked about doing his too which I did. Well, within probably 18 months his looked like, well, cow****! Within another 18 months or so the stuff in the Runner also started getting chalky and much more prone to peeling under heavy load. The Runners lasted longer simply cause the camper top protected the surface some. I'd stay away from any imitator and go for the most consistent texture. HTH
Also, the Herculiner texture is there for non-slip purposes (both feet and cargo), isn't it? Not really required on a vertical plane which will not be used for storage. That cottage-cheese texture stuff might even be more susceptible to ripping/gouging than a "flat" rubberized product.

Yes not really required on a vertical plane and probably not really wanted as it will just attract dirt and dust and it is hard to scrub it enough to get to the original base black color. With the pro products you can hose dirt off and maybe even rub dirt off with a wash mit but with the Herculiner, you really have to scrub to get to the cracks and crevices and get the stuff clean. Eventually I just resigned myself to the dirty and dusty look cause it was too much trouble to scrub and wash out the rear of the Runner. Again, another echo of what Christo wrote already but stay away from the imitators and go for LineX or something similar. HTH
Ok linex sounds like the all around answer. Urban Landcruiser does it so I will probably get it done there since thats who does almost everything else on my rig.
stuck, I don't usally harass but common do SOMETHING your self. I've read all the bashing against you and agree totally with them. If you just have someone else who knows what they are doing to do all the work why even come into this forum??
I'm not saying I always have the best input on the forum but really you are usless other than some entertainment(which I do not come into a tech forum for)
