No I do some stuff myself. But I don't want to do sh!tty work on my cruiser. I want it to be done right and I don't have time to do a lot of stuff and yall should respect that. I enjoy wheeling my rig more than fixing it. Deal with it that is how I am. I get suggestions from you guys to see where to get stuff and how it worked out for yall. If you don't like my stuff then don't answer. It's that simple. I want this lining done right so I am not doing it myself. I earn the money for it so why bug me for doing it. There are certain things that I will do myself. This is not one of them. Plus my dad would get pissed if I messsed it up because he wants my cruiser to look good and be drivable everyday and I can't do that if I do it myself.

Im sorry I meant look good as in not having uneven lining all along the side of the damn truck. I go wheeling every weekend almost. That isn't what he is worried about.

Ok guys, even Slee suggested he have it professionally done. I used to be like stuck back in the day, so I'm showing a little sympathy here. Several people pointed out in this thread that the do-it-yourself stuff isn't ideal, and having it sprayed professionally is the way to go. Then you guys all gang up on him for not doing it himself. That's not cool. For once he has an excuse for having it done professionally!

Josh, just some advice for the future. Whether you do something yourself or not, you might want to just keep that info to yourself. Going around talking about how Urban Landcruiser does all your work isn't going to help your case any, and although I'm sure you do have a job and do pay for stuff on your rig, it's hard to believe you bought tires, an OME lift, sliders, a bullbar, a skid plate, etc etc all with your own money. It would be better in my opinion to suck it up, admit that your parents help you out(note: I didn't say completely pay for everything, I said help you out), and move on. Most of these guys are just jealous 'cause they would love to have someone willing to just buy them parts for their trucks. Hell, I am. I'm jealous that you can afford to pay someone to do work on your truck when you're in HS. I had a full-time job last year, making 30k a year, living at home, and I still couldn't afford to pay people to work on my truck. You got it good kid, show some appreciation and respect and I think people will start easing up on you.

yea guys, please play nice OK... ! Like you weren't young once... sheesh....

edit: plus ain't he doing everything we'd like to see some young folks do to keep the hobby alive? And wheel the snot out of an 80? Much better than playing video games, dontcha think? (And better than what some of us mallcruisers do too, eh!)

stuck, I don't usally harass but common do SOMETHING your self. I've read all the bashing against you and agree totally with them. If you just have someone else who knows what they are doing to do all the work why even come into this forum??

I'm not saying I always have the best input on the forum but really you are usless other than some entertainment(which I do not come into a tech forum for)

Uh, hey bearcub, cut the kid some slack eh. Is he annoying? Yes. Does he dig his rig? Yes. Does he want his rig to kick butt? Yes. Does he pay for everything himself? Not my business nor anyone elses. Yeah, I grew up having to buy stuff my own, but I also now live in a town where parents give their kids mercedes convertibles, so who cares. As far as doing everything himself, have you told that to Nolen? I doubt it.

Some folks would rather pay to have things done. Nothing wrong with that. Those are the guys that help keep the shops in business you know. Some guys don't have the confidence to do some things themselves or just don't want to learn because they'd rather have someone else do it.

So, yeah, it's cool to give him crap just like we give everyone crap, but please stop the dogpiling. He's not your mom afterall.

Stuck - go linex and get it done by Urban if they do it. David is a cool dude and will take care of you. I was all set to go durabek till TJDIV started whining about it in chat. ..... and NO, I was not going to do it myself.

Man I hope your area doesn't hurt to bad......................

Sounds awful sore to me.............................................. :princess:

I sure hope Gumby's mom is still available..................... :D

Junk's got a point. I'm going to attempt to try and paint the center of my mood the flat black (or line-x), but I haven't done it yet because I reading up on how to do it and trying not to fawk it up too bad. I'm doing this because I'm a broke ass college student working two jobs and I'm still bareley making it. He's got money from parents or whoever (nobody's buisness but his) and he can afford to have a professional do it. Cut him some slack, you don't give other people who don't work on their own rig this kind of crap, yes I know it's stuck but give him a break, damn.

i give him credit for owning a cruiser
i give him credit for modding his cruiser
i give him credit for wheeling it

He should still work on his truck
if your in highschool you have alot of time i dont care what grades or school you go to.
Yes linexing your truck may not be something he wants to taclke himself, hell i woundnt. however other projects are things he should do. when your out on a trail and your off road lights fail you where would you start if you didnt install them? there are small things like this that makes modding your truck just as fun as driving it. i know everything about my mods becasue i did them myself. i know where i wired my aux fuse block, i know where i ran my cb antenna, i know where i hard wired my sub woofer and amp. For me if i screw something up i can always fix it. there are very few things u yourself can do in the light mods area that will screw your truck up beyond fixing and if thats what you do, use the money u saved doing something yourself to have it fixed? If there are things you absolutly dont know reaserch it and then do it yourself thats what this board is for. bolting a skid plate on under your truck is not exactly a 10 banana job. i dont mean to ragg on ya but when u understand your rig and wheel it, its way more fun.

I have done things myself. I've taken off the flares, running boards, installed cb and pa system and anntenna, and took off my factory bumper and tried to install the arb, Ive installed a lift into a cruiser, installed a winch, trimmed flares with saw, helped Bailey a lot ... What the hell am i saying. Im not going to try and defend myself to you.

FWIW, I have run the Dawsonville property with my truck as is and never damaged a flare.

User error! :)

I hear dupont makes a liner product that is completely UV resistant. Would be good for external applications. I have it in the bed of my Duramax. I was planning on shooting my entire 80 with it when I have money to do something other than buy Ramen.

Yeah Dan the trails have gotten a lot harder since you went. It was real muddy there too and I was going down on a hill and slid down and had no control. Any 80 would have done the same thing. Bailey got his ripped off in the same place too. The trails were tight and it happens. Oh well.

This would be one of those posts, that once I finished typing, I would go back, re-read it, and not even bother posting...

Just giving you an example ;)

I take a day off and everyone piles on my biotch???

BACK OFF!!!

heh, heh, heh...:D

Sparky - don't do this job yourself (it's best suited to a pro). Anyone suggesting that you roll on bedliner on the side of your rig most likely hasn't done it to their own. If Urban does this, and is willing to do it for you, go to them -- as you know, they're reputable and won't rip you off. I got a laughable estimate from my local Line-X guy, so I went elsewhere. My guy sprayed a clear semi-gloss sealant on mine after he was done to prevent the dry chalky look.

You should expect to pay around $400 to $500 for the job -- no more if you're just doing the flares -- I did the flares and sides for $400.

Just so yall know, coming from a young person(17) being young shouldn't be an excuse. I have installed my lift, castor plates, sliders, center diff lock switch, pin 7 mod, rebuild entire front axle and knuckle by myself. I had no prior wrenching expirience. I also managed to do this with minimal thread starting and posts, I simply read a ton and post little.

Be more humble stuckey! It just always seems like your saying, "I will have Urban Landcruisers do it." I don't have a problem with that, but its kinda funny. Just be more appreciative towards the people in this forum that have been here forever. It's more their's then our's in my opinion.

In some defense of Sparky...everyone has their own level of aptitude. When I was his age, I was able to change the oil on my car...I attempted (and succeeded) with a speaker install. But failed miserably with an aftermarket stereo installation -- sparks everywhere...

I took an autobody class and learned how to do body work, but if not for that...I'd probably have no clue today how to do body work.

The point I'm trying to make is that everyone has their own comfort level and their own ability level. It wasn't until I bought my 80 and started reading the many useful threads here that I even considered doing anything more than a oil or coolant change myself. I'm still a 1 or 2  wrench, but am not fearful of tackling more extensive work...afterall, I have my FSM...I can read...and I know that I have the help of my friends and members of this forum for help.
