Anyone know if the FJC will be offered w/ the V8? Was the V6-only just to keep prices down?

I don't think a V-8 is all that neccessary. The V-6 scoots it along quite well. That being said, I just read that the tranny in the FJC is the same as the one in the V-8 Runner. I'm wondering if it shares the same bell housing. If so, a V-8 swap couldn't be that hard. I'd rather a diesel, anyway.;)

I would second that a V8 is overkill. The 6 has plenty of power, even with the larger tires.

The V6 rigs are blowing up rear ends left and right.

I can't imagine the kinds of problems a V8 would cause.

4Runner and GX470 have the 4.7L V8 and same 8" rear diff.

I honestly don't think it would be worth the swap b/c the HP/TQ figures are so close between the 2, the only real gain would be the smoothness of the V8.

If there was a bigger gap between the two, it would probably swap in very easily.

engine performance

I agree that the v6 is enough power stock. Plus the v6 is an all alumium engine and alot lighter...Great for off-roading!

the V6 are not making the same, mmmm well closer amount of HP as same as V8 4.7 .. ?

The 4.0V6 vvti does not make the same HP, but it is close enough that, IMO, the swap would not be worth it at all.
You are talking about less than 30HP/ 40ft-lbs gain w/ the V8 vvti.

The V8 torque is better as it comes in max at 1000rpms lower, but as the engine swap would cost alot, it seems silly to swap for so little gain.

The hell with the power.

Nothing sounds better than a V8...............

A V6 exhaust note can not be made to sound good, no matter what you do....;)

that is true dan! The V8 is butter smooth, has that sound- as a factory option yes! but a DIY retrofit... i say not worth it... now if I had a nice 4.7 to drop into the 80 or a 60..or a 55... :grinpimp:
