Need some help here. The bracket supporting the lower knuckle protector broke at some time in the not too distant past. It finally found its way between the frame and the steering knuckle binding up the steering. Ordered a replacement support bracket from SOR. The problem is that the other half of the broken bracket is nowhere to be found and I cannot figure out where/how the bracket mounts to the frame.
Parts diagrams that I've found show the bracket, but not how it mounts up. Anyone have a picture that shows how it goes together? Thanks for the help.

Looks like you're working on a FJ80 (3FE engine).

Are you referring to the protective covers for the steering shaft U-joint (yoke sub assembly)??

Both upper and lower protectors are discontinued.
45637-60070 Lower Interlink Protector
45636-60100 Upper Interlink Protector

You could check the Classifieds, Parting Out section for used parts or start searching Auto Salvage yards.

FWIW the shaft U-joint assembly (Yolk sub assy) 45209-60070 is still available.

Does this help??

Yep. I have the replacement parts already. The 45637 is what broke. The 45426 is in good shape and reuseable. What I don't know is where the 45637 bolts fasten. I assume on the frame somewhere. If I had a pic of the unit as installed, I could find the mounting hole. Thanks.

Someone will chime in with a photo. In the meantime it might help to wash that area off well, dry it, then take another photo or two. If anything was bolted there you may see an impression left from that part ie: painted surface in better condition versus paint that's been exposed for 35 years.
Same for the bolt holes, any threaded hole that's had a bolt in it should appear cleaner, less corrosion and grime build-up inside the hole/threads.

I'll do that. Maybe I didn't clean a wide enough area. It will be interesting to see how the bracket avoids the brake(?) lines that pass through there.

Jeez! Thanks a lot Landtank! Ain't this forum great!!! Just went out in the dark and looked for it. I would've never found it without your help. Of course, I didn't think to look under two plastic shrouds either. Believe that I'm going to let my mechanic (40+ years younger than me) install the replacement. Thanks again.
