FJ80/FZJ80 Vs LX coil springs

I know that my LX dropped at least an inch when my sister in law tried sitting on the tailgate.... I whapped my head on the handle upper hatch lid for a week every time I tried getting something from the back.....I ended up jacking the thing up by the trailer hitch, unloading the springs and shocks for about 20 mins, then letting it settle down gradually.

We went on the Blue Ridge Parkway this past weekend with her, and now it leans to the passenger side a little............... I guess this time I'll go ahead and repeat the process, but rotate the tires at the same time.........If I'm gonna put the jack under it, I might as well make the most of it.... Happiness is a BFJ.....Big Freakin Jack......

I wonder if these revisions were over the LC counterparts or in general for (at least) the '97 LCs & LXs. Anyone knows?

Robinhood is using rear springs, and most guys are searching for 7 wrap 1995 front LC springs to use in the rear of their 3rd gen 4runners.

I'm actually looking for some 8 wrap LC coils to put in the back of my 4runner for a little extra height. Does anyone have an old set? From what I've gathered, they are either 1991, 1993, or 1996 modeal years that have the 8 wraps and measuer out somewhere near 21" in height.

I sold my 93 LC coils to a guy who got more lift than he expected on his 4runner but I think he used the front coils. You are using rear coils.

the stock uncompressed coils off my 93 were 19" high ds and 18 3/8" ps front and back. The rear coils are wider and have 6.5 turns versus 8 turns on the front starting from the end of the base and moving up. I am certain of this because I checked it twice before telling the guy and then he came out and verified. The ones in your photo are rear coils. The one on the left in your photo has 6.5 turns but the one on the right is more like 5 3/4. I do not remember ANY difference between turns on the ps and ds coils and the difference in height between ds and ps looks greater on your coils.

Who'd you sell yours to? The measurements have been coming in all across the board. The main criteria is that they are 8 wraps.

Dragr1 will have some more info but there are a bunch of diffrent sizes of font springs on the 80 series

from what I have seen at least the front LX450 springs are the same as some years of land cruisers. most likely the rear also.

Here is a list of color codes from the front springs I went though today

Height/color code/wraps

21" Blue Pink White 9.25 wraps
21" Grey Orange White 9.25 wraps

20.25" Blue Yellow White 8.75 wraps-one of these is a confirmed LX450

19.5" Green Yellow White 8.25 wraps-one of these is a confirmed LX450

19.5" Purple Green White 8 wraps

19.25" Double Purple Dark Blue White 8 wraps

19" Double Pink Light Blue White 7.5 wraps

18.5" Double Pink Grey White 7.5 wraps

18 7/8" Orange Orange White 7.75 wraps


From what we could tell all of the springs use about the same gauge wire. only 2 of these were from an LX450 so the LC and LX have springs in common at some point year like CDan has been saying all along, unfortunately I do not know what year belongs to what color code.

It might help out the 4-Runner guys and we could build a FAQ if everyone with stock springs would take a look at the front and rear springs and post up their paint codes & number of coils, along with their model (LC or LX) and year. Those that have the springs off could add the length measurements.

This adds more confusion for me, but maybe someone can use this data to help figure this out.
I got curious about this and did a search on http://car-part.com for used LX and LC springs. None of the listings gave lengths for front springs for any years. However, the rear springs gave options of different spring lengths depending on year & model. They didn't specify which combinations of L&R Rear go together, so this would need to be determined. I'll list the data I got from longest to shortest.

Left Rear Springs

Model Year 1993 gave no detail on length choices
Model Year 1992 and 1991 had 5 rear spring options, but gave no length detail. The options were based on:
R Rear - without 31" wheel package
L Rear - without 31" wheel package
R Rear - with 31" wheel package, but without 5000lb towing package
L Rear - with 31" wheel package, but without 5000lb towing package
Rear - With 31" wheel package and 5000lb towing package.


Maybe this can help in some way? It should at least help point us in a direction, but there are still a lot of combinations. Doesn't make sense to me that the left springs were shorter the way they were listed together. I thought cDan indicated earlier that the left (ds) spring should be longer. This is true of the listed LX springs as well. Maybe they are listing L/R as if looking at the truck from the front?

Seems like an LX could gain a little lift (and a firmer ride?) if you had the long '95 springs. Depends on springs rates I guess.
