Update.
I picked up some 93 rear coils and took some measurements. The numbers actually don't say much, infact they're pretty close.
....................Wire dia........Wire dia.......Wire dia......Wire dia.......Overall
Spring..........Bot (mm).....CTR (mm)....Top (mm)....Ave (mm)....Length (cm)
97 LX long......15.28...........15.23...........15.21.........15.24.............47.5
97 LX short.....14.94...........14.86...........14.85.........14.88.............45.3
93 LC-1..........15.42...........15.32...........15.36.........15.37.............48.3
93 LC-2..........15.50...........15.47...........15.44.........14.47.............47.5
The only obvious difference I see is that the 93 LC coils have a shaved, flat top while the LX coils just end, as you can see from this picture
(The springs are lined up with the concrete crack and the measuring tape shows the difference in height. LC coils on left, LX coils on right)
So what did I find out? Well I threw the 93 LC coils on the 4runner fully expecting to have the same height as LX coils, but to my surprise I found I had gained 1 inch in height. That's what I was looking for all along. I've even put on about 400 miles with a trip to pismo dunes...same height now.
So in summary, the dimensions are similar but the way the spring terminates is different. The LC coils gave me 1" more lift than the LX coils.
