Hey gents
My 62 has been giving me problems, and today it stumbled and then died.
when i tried to restart it acted like it wasnt getting any spark. turned off key, waited about 1 min. and tried again. in fired right up and ran good for about 5 min then started stumbling again, when ever i would step into the throttle it would pause and sound like the engine died. if i let off gas it would catch back fire out the tailpipe and the idle. so i limped it home, let it set for 4hrs while i was at work, tried it again after work, and it starts right up and runs great. Pulled two spark plugs out the #1 and #4 they are both yellow and discolored. running stock ignition except for accel coil.
Please help i have been fighting this for acouple of mouths and its is getting worse and worse the first time it did it it got back up and running quickly. and didnt have it happen again for a couple of mouths. today it happed 3 time in about 45min.

It's possible the fuel sock in the tank has become blocked with crud, or the pump or its wiring is bad. You can test pump by jumping the diagnostic block. If you have rust-though over the DS rear wheel the wiring maybe be compromised by corrosion.

checked the connector in drivers wheel well , everything is good there. was poking around under hood found that my coil is covered in oil and the wheel well under it, removed it and looks like it is cracked and leaking oil. so i am going to replace plugs cap & rotor and coil and check pump pressure this weekend . hopefully that is the problem.

sounds good, a proper tune up is always the best place to start

got the toy running again, it hasnt ran this strong in a long time. also did a throttle bore clean it was black and greasy. next question will someone explain to the trany throttle postion cable adjustment.

hey gents
checked the fuel pump this weekend the connector over the wheel well, is good no corrosion.
pump is turning on and the pressure is good, it maintains 39psi at all rpms. replaced coil and ignitor., as well as a full tune up. she is running a lot better but still has a miss. haven't driven it for any length of time yet 15-20mins at a time . I am going to take it to St.Joe in the morning ,hope it does die and not restart again like it back on the 27th. I also loosened up the TP cable adjustment on the tranny. it is shifting a lot better.

Check the points, i've been burning points every month or so lately, which has been causing this problem. can't seem to figure out whats burning them out, new mechanic suggested that the previous mechanic didn't clean the points before installing them.

Interesting, I've never cleaned points or heard of cleaning points before installing them. But in any case, the FJ62 doesn't have points.

Oh right, my bad. I'm in Australia. Our 62's do.

apparently they've got a plastic coating on them when they're new. and should be cleaned? wouldn't know if it's true or not though.

interesting zacariah... are the australian 62's not made with a 3fe just like ours?
