Hi,
I'm thinking that my shifter is partially broken. It works. It does make a positive gear selection. However, once in a gear, I can pull the handle rearward about 3/4" and rotate it about 10 degrees CCW, which causes the red selector to disappear.

Its not a big deal, but I'd like to fix it or replace it if possible before it breaks entirely. Are there typical failures with this shifter?

I'm looking at this exploded diagram, but I can't identify the whizmo that keeps either side of the lever in a selected gear.

The entire assembly is fixed to the floor nicely, but the lever itself has the slack.

I just replaced those plastic bushings, got them at SOR, inexpensive. It got rid of the side to side, but the front to back slop is still there. I had a loose nut where the linkage attached to the tranny . Helped to tighten it up but is still has slop

Ditto. Well worth it. The bushings had disentigrated and this tightens everything up.

Today I replaced the bushings in my 62 AT shifter. Totally eliminated wobble and slop in all directions. I think re-rightening all the fasteners helped as well.

Big thanks to everyone on this forum for sharing great info. You are making it easy for this LC newbie. So far...
