I have a '89 Fj62 and want a lift kit but don't want to spend 1000 plus.
so please help me find a cheap lift kit, 2 inch will do.
I really don't know what spacers are if they are cheaper ill go for that.
thanks,
FJ62 NOOB

The cheapest way to get lift would be a 2 inch body lift for around $200 from Man a fre. I made my own for like 90 but honestly i'd just buy the kit time is worth something. A 2 inch you will have to adjust your radiator shroud and check carefully when your put it on that nothing gets strecthed to much. A 1 inch doesn't really need any modifications I think. Longer Shackles could get you an inch for around $120 from Spector Off Road and an add a leaf from Man-A-Fre could also get you a little better than an inch for $100. That would only be around 450 and It would get you 4 inches. The one thing I don't like of all those is extended shackles. They are long, get in your way a little when offroading, and affect your steering geometry a little bit.

You will need to better define what kind of lift you want.

Some options:

shackle lift with castor correction for the front
re-arched springs
add-a-leaf
combination of any of the above with body lift
body lift by itself
lift springs (lots of ways/brands/retailers to go there)
spring over axle

I have Old Man Emu Dakar springs (2.5" advertised) on my truck. I got an econo kit from MAF a few years back before I was on Mud, I would buy them from Cruiser Outfitters now. Absolutely loved them when I first got them, but I need to put a bit of work into them again. The inserts in the eyes of the springs worked loose and my temporary fix is starting to fail. A little attention with a welder should fix that up permanent when I pull them off to add an extra leaf to the front end (bullbar and winch on front but no bumper on the back leads to serious stinkbug stance).

If I were to do it again, I think I would do some research on the add-a-leaf option first. If that didn't look good, I'd go OME again but tack the inserts before installing them.

i did man it ant free long add a leifs 4 + body lift and 4 + long greasable shackles for under $700

There used to be an ironman kit on ebay for like $500, but they dried up a while ago....

No matter which kit you buy, IMHO suspension lift is better, more flex & tire clearance. Then you can go up in tire size next time you need tires.
I would also recommend extended brake lines for about another $70 or so just for good measure

that and,
they quit importing 62s in what 1990ish?
they are heavy trucks on a soft spring rating. without doubt your springs are played out.
a decent spring lift will freshen everything up giving you the clearance you wish and improving the ride and handling.
going cheap is not an option. low budget is one thing, cheap is a bad one.

Cheapest GOOD option would be to have your stock leaf springs rearched and then an add a leaf. That could easily get you your 2"+. You are now in $250-300 territory, possibly less if you do the work (other than the actual rearch) yourself. If that does not do it, you could then do a 1" body lift. Personally, I do not like body lifts, but 1" is very modest. If this investment does not do it for you, I would save up and buy new or used OME lift springs or Terrain Tamers.

Lift Kit

I was in the same boat as to spending that kind of money on a lift kit. I just bought a Hellcreek on Ebay last week ($650) and got it Thursday and I am in the process of installing it. So far I am really pleased with the quality and it is made in the USA which means something to me personally. Also, I have talked to Tom (owner) a couple of times and he responds well to emails and phone calls and he seems like a good guy. Shipping also played a part for me in that I am in Georgia and the kit was shipped from Mississippi. I'm sure the OME is a quality kit but just too expensive for me. I'm also adding anti-inversion shackles from Manafree. I think I looked at everything on the market and found this to be the best option for me. Just my 2 cents worth.

How does a hell creek kit ride? I'm putting in a tbi next week and in the 6 months having it built and most likely blown so I'm not sure i want to be spring over axle with 350- 400hp.

Hell Creek Lift

I don't know how it rides as of yet. I had hoped to have it all together this weekend but in the middle of everything I realized that when I ordered my shackles I didn't think to order some new bushings to go along with them. I realized it about the time I got the old ones out so I am ordering some new bushings and hope to take it for a ride by next weekend. There are more FJ40 guys that run this lift than FJ60's. From what I can tell I'm looking forward to the improvement but I'm going from a pancake flat set of springs to this one so it's got to be better.

I would definitely recommend adding the longer shackles. It made the kit that much better.

I too appreciate that it's made in the USA and have had excellent customer service from Tom.

It road stiff when new but with the shackles it smoothed out and rides very nice now. Flexes well too. I paid more for it. For $650 it's a steal.

Just for consideration, body lifts are not bad at all. If you just want to fit bigger tires they do that without raising the COG as much as a suspension lift and gives you some increase in clearance under the chassis. If you want more suspension travel then of course you need a suspension lift which will also give you more clearance under the chassis.

All is from Man-A-Fre. They carry the 4+ stuff (made by "lcwizard" on mud)

LCWIZARD's stuff is bomber too. Not inexpensive, but really well done. I especially like the 4+ anti-inversion shackles. They are the best available.
