Being new to the FJ62 with a 5 speed and considering options I'd like to hear from people regarding their setups for gearing and tire size.

I'm running 33's and the stock 62 gearing.

TIA!

Is your avitar a pic of your truck. It has a 60 front end. Is it a 60 or a 62?

It depends on what your doing with it. I would say you are set up nicely for an all around rig. If you spend a lot of time off road and a small amount of time on road you might consider dropping down to 4:56 gears although I have always read that you need to go 2 sizes to make the switch worth the effort. The 5sp gives you a nice crawl and still lets you go on the freeway.

I would stay where you are with the 4.11's and 33's with all the climbing you probably do in Colorado. Where don't you like about this setup?

Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely pleased with the stock gearing since it is my DD, just curious what other people's experience is with similar setups. My miles off road probably about the same as on road since I typically drive 60 miles to get in the hills.

I love the H55F which was like getting a new truck rather than just a new tranny, it's without a doubt the best thing I've done. I guess 5th gear isn't as good for highway cruising as I hoped it to be which really is fine since 1st & 2nd are better than I hoped.

No, I wouldn't consider dropping to 3:73 but I would consider going to 35's.

Might try playing with this tool to get some idea of how different options might work out for you:
4Lo.com :: Final Gear Ratio, Crawl Ratio, Tire Size Calculators
For example, 4.11 & 33's is +/- the same as 4.56/35's.
Also, what top speed do you really want to drive on the freeway? At least on my 60, going slower adds a lot in mpg.

I'd say go with 35" tires instead of changing up gear ratios. The 4.11's give you great torque off road while still being road friendly. The 35's will give you a little bit better clearance and traction off road while still being road friendly and adding a little bit to your overdrive.

So in my opinion, 35's, 4.11, 5-speed. This is the setup I'm planning on running.

On my 60 I run 33s, h55f, 4.11s. I think it's a good setup. And that's with the 2F. Must be sweet with the 3FE.

If you do decide to go larger on tires, I would plan on gears too. I found the 3.70s a little anemic with 33s (hence the upgrade to 4.11s). I would suspect that the 4.11s might be somewhat the same with 35s or larger.

I am running the smallest 35's (spec. =34.2) I could find with 4.11's and H55F. I like the setup a lot but don't think I would go with 35's unless I had the extra low gears with the toybox. It just depends on what you want more, low gears offroad or higher gears for cruising on the highway. If you look at the numbers, 4L with 35's 4.11 and H55F is not that good with the wheeling I do with my cruiser. It is true that the lower first gear in the H55F helps out some instead of the stock H42 4 speed. They should make something between 4.11's and 4.56's.

Thanks for the feedback folks. As I suspected I'll stay with my current setup which is great overall. I'll take care of my curiosity of what 35's would be like by borrowing a friends set one of these days. The highway cruising speeds are really okay and I should get over how fast I can go and pay a bit more attention to the mpg as someone mentioned. It's cool to "easily" get up to fast speeds but the 3FE really sucks fuel at high speeds.
