Last week I picked up my FJ62 from Valley Hybrids after a much anticipated suspension upgrade along with a few other much needed repairs. While I don’t post much, I do visit this site quite a bit since pulling my truck out of storage and noticed there was a lack of threads on the dobinsons suspension kits. I looked at all the (non-custom)options available, made a few calls, gathered info and ordered the dobinsons kit way back in September. At the same time I reserved a spot to have it installed with Valley Hybrids. Unfortunately delays getting things from Australia caused me to cancel my order and look at other options. I looked in more detail at other options and couldn’t get myself to “compromise”. Not wanting to lose my spot I kept my scheduled appointment to do the T-case, and fix the sloppy shifter. I then made another appointment for a couple months out while I continued my search for a suspension kit. Thankfully I gave Mike at Exit Off-road a call. Mike was great, had a ton of knowledge on different options and let me know he had a shipment coming in that would allow me to keep my appointment. To my surprise he even told me of an option that wasn’t even on his site yet. With that, I ordered a full kit with medium springs, the new 3-way adjustable MRR (monotube remote reservoir) shocks as well as the new adjustable monotube steering damper. Everything arrived in plenty of time. Valley Hybrids installed the kit, did my knuckles, redid the front brakes, redid the exhaust (from the cat back) and a few other items. Overall I couldn’t be happier with Exit Off-road, Valley Hybrids and the ride. Enough of that, here are a few pictures:

How much were the Leaf springs + shackles and what not? Why did you choose them over OME? Thanks.

I bought it all as a kit but the exit off-road site has the items listed individually I believe.
The OME kit was about half the price so I was tempted. From what I gather, the parts you’re asking about (leaf springs, shackles, U bolts) are very similar to the Dobinsons kit. The big difference in price and for me was the monotube shocks & damper along with the adjustability. I have plans for adding more weight to my truck at times so being able to adjust things as much as these allow will hopefully be a nice feature. They’re also completely serviceable which could be nice I suppose...

Right on. I just put new Blistiens on and sn OME stabilizer...at 1/2 the price and the rave reviews ill prlly stick with OME leafs, shackles bolts ect... Seems easiest + i think will give me a solid upgrade to whats on now...im guessing they worn out. Cant hurt anyway. Thanks

To clarify, I’d guess the hardware from Dobinsons or OME is about the same cost, the price difference I was referring to was between the top OME kit compared to the top Dobinsons kit. Dobinsons makes a lower kit that is comparable to the OME kit(s) in price because those kits include similar shocks/damper as OME but I went with the monotube shocks and damper.
In my search I looked at the Bilstein shocks with OME hardware/springs and that does seem like a good option. From reading a bit on the subject it seems the vendor you buy from and the install might be as important as the hardware you choose in order to avoid some of the pitfalls (stink bug look, leaning, too stiff or soft springs, etc).

Just got my Dobinson's kit this past weekend. It was somewhere between -14º and 5º, so it's just sitting out in the garage, but I'm looking forward to getting it put on. Mike was super helpful, too. @WSOPgold2012, it's been discussed ad nauseum, but obviously OME is the tried and true "best choice" that is always recommended. I went Dobinsons because I'm naturally wary of what everyone claims is the best. Dobinsons manufactures all their coils/springs in-house and have a great reputation in Oz, so I went for it.

FWIW, I emailed Cruiser Outfitters about extended sway bar links and they told me they, too, are a Dobinsons dealer. Either way, can't go wrong, I'd imagine.

60 looks fantastic as does the suspension porn. Great choice, perfectly executed.
Thanks, I appreciate it. It’s funny it recharged me a bit to do a few more items. While it was getting all this done I got a few things in the mail so today I updated the front speakers, put on new gaskets for the tail lights and added a seat cover to the back seat that matches the front seats. A work in progress but it’s coming along...

But how does it ride?

But how does it ride?
Relative to the ride prior it’s a huge improvement. I haven’t played with the adjustments much yet but I did take it on a couple long rides, so I have about 400 miles on the new setup. After 500 miles I’m going to take it to an alignment shop just to check on things, as recommended. I’ve got under it to look at things, soften up the settings and I tightened the lug nuts. Mostly on road but did go down a couple fire trails. For future reference, I have these settings:
3- High compression
6- Low compression
3- Rebound
8- Steering Damper
Highh has a range of 1-10
Low has a range of 1-20
Rebound has a range of 1-15
Steering damper has a range of 1-12
The ride is much smoother than before, steering a little heavier with much less road vibration. The ride prior wasn’t terrible but definitely not good. The springs were stock but the shocks were about 15 years old. The steering damper was stock and likely doing nothing. I hope that helps...

get em in yet?

I ordered the Dobinson's from Exit (but with IMS shocks). Did you replace the rear spring pads as well? Not sure if the OEM pads are needed/compatible with the springs.

Any update on the ride? Still happy I hope!

I’ve been really pleased with the upgrade both on and off-road.
I had Georg at valley hybrids install these and I know he uses all new hardware outside of the items that came with the kit. On the front I remember seeing caster correction shims but not sure about the rear, if that’s what you’re referring to?
