I’m having issues opening my FJ60 tailgate. I’ve removed the three panels, the rods are attached to the open lever and moving. The lock mechanism Seems to be functioning and I can see it engaging through the panel. The issue seems to be on the driver side lock not engaging fully. Note the gate does open slightly, but not fully.

Ive seen other threads on this exact same thing, search and you will find. I only want to point out the obvious in case you haven't checked......The little round black lock on the passenger side on top edge of tailgate? Try pushing it in hard then trying to open on the pesky side?

Hi, I’m assuming you got it open. I lubricate all moving parts of all my doors and latches about twice a year.

My guess is the hang up is related to the locking mechanism.
Your picture shows the same angle as when the lock is engaged. It opens partially.

Mine was sticking due to the retainer part on the passenger side of the body. I had to wiggle it back and forth a lot for it to release. Luckily, I was able to source a new retainer/latch for it. The gate mechanism was perfectly fine, just like yours seems to be.

Maybe an image of the linkage will help. Notice the rods that move along the top when the handle is actuated. Does the handle fully move without a feeling of the linkage binding? Is the drivers side linkage (69314) moving or somehow has come unlinked from the chrome handle in the center?
