Hey everybody, I usually am hanging on the 80 forums but I just found a 60 that was perfect for me.

I am 16 and when I was looking for a first car I wanted a 60 or 62 so bad. The styling and the mechanical toughness spoke to me and I could just picture myself in one. However, my mom stepped in and said I had to have airbags so the 60 series immediately got ruled out and I ended up with a 96 FZJ80 (which I love). But even still with a solid 80 series with a 3-inch lift and rock sliders I still wanted a 60. Everyday I check craigslist for a 60 and i finally found one that fits the bill. Now first off I want to make clear no my parents did not buy either one of my cars. This is all my money. They help me pay for insurance and that's it. I have been mowing yards, snowblowing, and doing yard work since 6th grade and have had great success with it.

Anyways I found a one owner 60 series up in Denver that was perfect for what I was looking to do. It was a little rough around the edges with rust on the rear quarters, a broken tailgate, not functional gas gauge or oil pressure gauge, and a weird power steering problem. However besides that, the body was straight, the frame had no rust, the engine was in good shape, and the interior is great (besides the cracked dash). It also had a new clutch and whole new exhaust. My dad and I have been looking for a project car and this seemed perfect. So i met the guy, got it for the right price and now I am a proud owner of a 1985 dark blue fj60.

So my plan for this car is to restore it. I would like to fix all the things that are currently wrong with it, fix the rust, repaint it, put maybe at most an OME 2 inch lift, and some new wheels are tires. Other than that I just want to drive it and enjoy it. I will be posting everything I do to it on this thread. I am super excited to finally be apart of the 60 family and let me know what you think.

Thanks!

CONGRATULATIONS . Engine bay looks nice and tidy. What's the weird PS problem? Losing pressure?

Thank you! And I have no idea. It's like there is no power steering at all and the pump has fluid and it has the belt on so I don't know if it is the pump itself or what. I just don't know where to start. It must be the pump but its just so random not to have any weird noise or anything.

Its most likely worn out. Does it work better if you apply some RPMs? You also need to check to if recycling back to the reservoir.
I think there also is a valve that is activated as you turn the steering shaft, maybe that's faulty.

It does not work better with higher rpms. So it think your right its probably worn out and needs to be rebuilt. I will also look at that valve.

Thanks!

Congrats on finding a great 60....and big hi-five on the work ethic - 16 and already has 2 Cruisers! Have fun learning the in's and out's of the new rig.

8B4 is the best color! Enjoy.

Time for Saginaw...

Welcome to the 60 side

congrats, don't ever sell it. When I was born my dad brought me home in our 1985 fj60 that he bought new the same week I was born. He kept it until I was 16 and then handed over the keys, I wish I wasn't such a dumb young punk back then. I sold it because I thought it had high miles, only 130,xxx and it had a little rust, I thought it was a lot! we called that cruiser old blue. I love seeing the younger generation getting involved in these timeless vehicles.
