I just downloaded the entire manual the other day from the toyotatech info...what a pain..takes a while to do..

You're looking for a needle in a haystack if your waiting for your year at a good price on ebay. Been there, done that. If you don't have the patience or time to go the $10 route mentioned above, get the hard copy from C'dan at better than fair price.

I think most people are going to be reluctant to print and send out stuff from the FSM, maybe unless someone is in a jam.

You know, it would be awesome if someone who downloaded all the manuals could offer them in a single, downloadable package for those of us who don't have all day.

BUT! They should only be made available to someone who can produce verification that they paid for access already.

Basically, I'd pay toyotatechinfo but instead of having to download the whole manual all day, I could get a single file from one of you guys.

Maybe for verifiaction I'd have to give you my username/password or something....

Maybe this whole post will get deleted :)

Just a thought, anyone want to share?

What does everyone think of the above idea? Is it legit? Moral?

Defiantly borderline but maybe a good thing for the cruiser community?

Sure.

If you're going to do you're own maintenance on these vehicles, the FSM and this site are going to save you gobs of money. Pay the man and be done with it. Chincing on this item is not going to go to far with most people on this site, and trying to administrate distribution of the downloaded files from toyotatech would be difficult and I dare say illegal.

If you're that straped for cash, you're probably just going to have to suffer through the download process.

It's not the cash. I already own the FSM and electrical manual. It's the convinience of searching and printing out stuff like front axle service when I'm working with tubs of grease and birf-soup. I'm not trying to save any money, in fact it's about spending $10 more...

That's why I suggested the above method. Toyotatechinfo gets their $10 and I get the manual in PDF form. In fact, it's probably beneficial to them as I'm not using their bandwidth! Now, is it legal? Don't know. If I buy Photoshop and loose the CD, a friend can legally burn me a copy (same version of course) and I can use my serial number with it, again legally. But most software is not buy-to-own, it's right-to-use so it may not apply here.

I think we're talking distribution method vs. 'right' to have. You pay $10 you get the 'right' to download those manuals to your computer and use them. Does it matter how they get to your computer? Is that part of the license? I doubt it, but then again, I haven't read it.

Now morally, as long as we ensure that those who get a copy have paid their $10 to Toyotatechinfo I'm all for it. Like I said, I would THINK they would be all for it as well, reducing their bandwidth and getting $10 from people like me who wouldn't pay otherwise as I don't have a full day to download the manuals...

I see what you're saying. Don't know if it's going to happen though. They're pretty much giving it away at $10, so probably wouldn't get much response from an inquiry on it. But don't let me piss on your parade, if you took out the PITA factor, I'd pay $10 for an electronic version.

WTB 91 FJ80 Transmission

Naybody got an extra tranny sitting around for a 91 FJ80. I don't know if other years will fit. I would like one with low miles if possible. I'm in NC so if it's close that's better!

So is anyone just going to send me the file or what? To keep thing legit I can send it back when I am done :) It would almost be like reading it to me over the phone, and thats ok right???????

In order to do this, Toyota would have to pay someone to rework all of the PDFs. Not likely.

It appears that Toyota is trying to make this more attractive to the repair shop that would pay the yearly sub and be done with it.

If you look at the newer man files, they're becoming more of a "start with your symptoms and click thru to repair" kind of thing. For my '01 corolla and '03 sequoia, the files are much easier to use while online (find the correct subsection, diagnose and print just what you need)....forget about trying to download them all tho.

I personally don't own the FSMs for any of my Toyotas...when I have work to do, I buy a day's subscription, download the sections I need, and go from there. I've got most of the sections for my fzj, but I am sure that Toyota doesn't want people posting/sharing the info for free...copyrights and all. The point there is that TIS is a subscription, not a software package.

In my case, I haven't had a chance to 'wheel my rig at all yet, so having a paper copy of the manual to fix stuff in the middle-o-nowhere is a moot point for me. I could theoretically copy the files I've got to my laptop and have 'em if I had that level of need...

Next time you log into TIS, take a few minutes and look at one of the newer manuals...you'll see the direction they're moving in, and it's almost the opposite of what you're asking for.

I'm not advocating ANYONE share the info. for free!

Here's my question to you guys who have downloaded all the PDFs. If I get a subscription and pay my $10 to techinfo.toyota.com, and I send you a copy of the confirmation email or give you my username and password so you can VERIFY that I paid, would you send me a .zip file of all the PDFs you laboriously downloaded so I don't have to laboriously download them myself?

I don't know if it's legal. I think it's moral as techinfo.toyota.com gets their cash and nobody else is making money off their stuff. If you agree and have downloaded the PDFs let me know....

That is all...

I have a set of 5 chrome FJ60 wheels with tires and hubcaps. They are sitting in my garage for those days I swap them for the 33's when I just want to go to and from work 5 miles. Make me an offer and we'll see. BTW, these are in Colorado.

Might trade the wheels(including shipping and tires) for a set of Japanese Spec larger bolt-on 60 series mirrors. An example is below, and this guy is in Canada.

Not sure if this is a good deal, and I don't care if the mirrors are used or new, but we can't find them in any junkyard I know of here.

Let me know.

I don't think it would be legal. Here's why:

If you've gone to the site to download any of these files, you'll see that it's a multi-step process to navigate to the section of the manual you're interested in. When you get there, you find that each PDF file is like one or two pages on average.

The reason they only charge $10 IMO is that: a) they don't really expect people to download the entire manual, b) they have done a good job of making it quite inconvenient to download the entire manual, and c) the organization of the site and files makes me agree with gregc that they are trying to make this a site that shops will subscribe to.

While they don't prevent or state that you can't download all the files, if they have gone out of their way to make it difficult, it's becuase they want to make money from this material. In fact, if they didn't care, then why don't they just have a single PDF (I don't think the download size is the reason with broadband connections these days)? If someone were to create a single PDF file of all the pages, then it would essentially be taking potential customers from the site--you can be assured they won't allow that.

BUT: if you think they would allow this, it would be easy to find out. As Raventai did, just contact them and ask if this would be a legal/allowed activity for a forum member to do and share with other forum members so long as they paid up. If they were to say it was, then it would be easy to create a single PDF from the assorted pages/files. I've done this myself with my other cars (but have the paper version for the LC).

PS: The only thing that bugs me about the techinfo files is that their version of the manual does NOT include the indices.

I've got some old sets laying around if interested. $35 plus shipping

unfortanetly on the wrong coast. I've got one from a 91.
