I just bought a 85 fj60, and like many of them it has tears in the front driver seat. Is it possible to fing the original seat covers or seats? Or should i just go to SOR and pay alot for after market seats? Any Suggestions?

uhm? theses?;)

please post photos and info...as I am also looking at upgrading my seats......don't mind fabracting brackets if I have to but would rather not....

thinking about looking into 100 seats? thoughts?

I bought the SOR upholstery type of seat covers... not the ones that go over the original fabric but the ones that actually replace the fabric. I cant say that I'm thrilled with them after a year. The fabric is durable and I am hard on them but they are fading really badly now. If I could go back I would have coughed up a few more bucks and went with after market seats.

FYI: the fabric from either seat bottom will swap with the opposite seat. Only difference is that the vinyl on the outside edge accommodates the tilt lever, so it is cut differently (not noticeable once installed unless you're cruisanal retentive (aren't we all?).

I bought the entire front passenger & rear seats for ~$175 (plus misc., including rear floor mat) from salvage yard (he paid $1K for rolled FJ62; so far, I've helped him recoup close to half his $).

Bought a 1 inch cali king size memory foam bed pad off Overstock for cheap; cut portion to fit on top my plush soft-side H2O bed (just under sheets = reduced heating cost, no more night sweats, greater warmth & comfort).

Er, back to the Cruiser upgrade: Two pieces were cut from the remnant to fit between the bolsters on the seat bottom. A little spray adhesive stuck in place. It will compact as you work the cover back on. Hog rings & hog ring pliers were used to reattach the cover.

I'm sure this could be done on the seat back, but with greater effort.

WAY COMFORTABLE. Incentive almost enough to redo the perfect passenger seat (wife does majority of driving).

I had an upholstery shop replace the driver's cover side material on my other FJ62. Close match to original brown vinyl, but the cloth material is now pulling away at the edge. Don't recall the cost (years ago), but he recently wanted $150 to sew a new seat bottom cover if I supplied the OEM material (believe a rear seat cover would suffice).

One could score the material off seats on eBay . . . beware, I asked one seller if he'd remove the seat cover & reduce shipping charges. Sure, but he admitted that it wasn't actually the driver's seat cover, but the passenger's, and had been on the driver's seat for years already.

I've seen one OEM NOS seat cover go on eBay for $$$$$$$$$$ (guess some of us are more cruisanal than others, :D)

Ive got $50 into a pair of seats out of a '05 Ford Escape. I modified the front brackets to bolt in, and cut off the rear rear mounts and welded on the 60's rear brackets.

Total time- about 3 hours. Do the passenger seat first so you can get an idea of how they mount. You will end up taking the seat in and out a dozen times, but that will relate to 1 or 2 times for the drivers seat.

By the way, the Escape's gray seats vinyl portions are almost a dead-on match for the 60. The cloth section is off but not terribly.

Well, I just bought an FJ62 (this is my first post actually), and while the front seats aren't torn, I'm planning to get some Wet Okole seat covers. Not a permanent solution, but cheaper for now than new aftermarket seats. And probably a good idea in the long run anyway.

Corbeau seats are great...A vast improvement over the stockers...My .02.....

I did the SOR seat foam and the SOR cover for the drivers seat (the cover sewn from the same material) and I am pleased with the results. I even went back after a year and did the passenger seat foam because of the improvement!

Aftermarket/wrecker may be cheaper but it doesn't match. I think after two years it's still a good deal to do the SOR foam/covers.

I am extremely pleased with the SOR seat foam replacement. I put in Wet Okoles over that. You have your choice of a lot of color combinations with the Wet Okoles. Good combination for a vehicle that gets used and somewhat abused. Not cheap, but worth it for me

i have a complete interior "brown" for sale , with no rips on the front seats

where you get the Corbeau seats? What is required to install them?

i got mine out of a 68 camaro w/ 454 , spector offers them in their catalog. i bought the brackets from spector and they worked alright they give you much more leg room. my seats have a air pump lumbar adjust. i think they cost about 5 bills new... the brackets were 120 each.

Corbeau "Moab" 200 each, Bracket 80 Each (thereabouts...)

I just ordered the Corbeau Baja RS (reclinable suspension) seat. I'll let you know how they work out. If you want to get a new Corbeau go to their website http://corbeau.com and fill out the form to get their list of display dealers. Then go sit in the different seats. The list price seems similar everwhere. You can order the seat online but look around so you get free shipping. I just ordered mine from the store where I checked out the seats. The custom bracket is $90. Of course you could fab your own for cheaper but I don't know how to weld yet.

I plan to take a route similar to 4xodic. I may end up getting the SOR foam, but $165 seems crazy. I'm thinking I will remove the foam from my seat and have an upholsterer make me a new one or buy the foam to make one myself. I got to think it will run less than $100. If not, SOR it is.
