You'd be better off selling a 60 & buying a 62. Cheaper, quicker, way less hassle.

X 2.

You could bolt the A440F to the 2F but you'd need the plate adaptor which is the equivalent of the bellhousing, the flexplate instead of the flywheel. Crossmember would need to be mover rearward. The driveshafts are different so you'd have to go with 62 shafts or have your shafts modified. Swap tranny covers. Get a auto shifter. You'd have to mod up something at the carb for the kickdown cable. May need a little wiring to account for the neutral start switch.

Sell one of the 60s or swap for a 62.

Just buy your wife a fj62 you will save both you and her a lot of headaches.

The hp I added to my 85 by doing the desmog should make up the difference. Im willing to loose a little power, it's for my wife, and I cant afford a chev 350 swap

By itself it likely won't make up the difference. Properly built and cooled an A440 is a bulldog but it has wide gear spacing (especially 3rd to 4th OD) and isn't all that quick to downshift (even with a modified valvebody and a tighter than stock kickdown cable setting). A stock 3FE barely has enough power to handle the rpm drops between gears. As such an FJ-62 is very sensitive to final gear ratio. Assuming that you're running stock sized tires with the 3.70 axle ratio you'll be gear 10% below a stock FJ-62. 10% makes a big difference with this tranny. Even mildly oversized tires quickly make this situation worse. Also the A440 sucks up power like a TH400. So your desmog would need to put you well past the stock 3FE's output just to make up the difference. You'd need more than a desmog for this.

Not trying to be negative, everyone has a different idea about how much power is enough, and lots of FJ-62s are running around with gearing that is 10% or more off from stock due to oversized tires. But just a heads up that once you handle all of the bolt together issues the end result may still be disappointing without gearing or additional performance work (or likely both) :meh:

X3-4 whatever... Get your wife a 62. Be sure to swap the headlights, grill etc... before getting rid of your 60 though. You don't want your wife driving around with those ugly rectangular headlights do you? btw Keep the 85 for yourself, it will be an easier 5 spd swap than the earlier 60.

Bunch a nay sayers :flipoff2: haha. Anyone have a nice fj62 willing to trade for a nice fj60...I have an 82, clean, stock, little minor mody damage, 196k. An 85, desmogged, 148k, perfect body mostly clean interior
