it's hard to see what you're really buying when I'm in Virginia, but was interested in finding out - if nothing more, what kind of vibes the owner puts out...
I have seen the truck for about 5 minutes. No under hood look, no under carriage look, didn't drive it.
It is RHD and the body (and everything else) looks good for the age. I saw no rust anywhere and none in the usual places for a 40. The owner is a local dealer with a very small lot out on Central Blvd. He has posted here on the HDC forum in the past but I don't think anyone in the club knows the guy. I could be wrong. I also don't think anyone in the club has bought anything from this dealer, but I could be wrong.
It appears this dealer has a source in OZ or South America or somewhere these were sold. The Troopies have all been RHD and one of them had an OZ tag. The LPB, the 61, and the 40 are all LHD so it is unlikely they came from OZ or from the Japanese market. I don't think these are Canadian trucks because the condition is very good and Canadian trucks are usually junk after 20 years in their climate. If I had to guess, I think these came from the Middle East and the troopies may have originally been sold in Australia and later moved to the Middle East. The FJ40 had a bumper sticker in Arabic (but it also had a bumper sticker from Colorado... so who knows.)
The black FJ40 is from the middle east; either Dubai or Saudi Arabia (the guy couldn't remember which.) It is a 1980 "LX" model which has factory air and factory power steering (probably other stuff too.) Petrol and LHD. Very nice... asking $20k
The FJ45 ($22k) is also from the middle east; either Dubai or Saudi Arabia. It is a 1984 with factory air and factory PS. The rear window has "Toyota" on it and it is a slider but looked to be from a later vintage truck to me. The frame was aluminum and didn't quite look right. Petrol and LHD. Still didn't look under the hood 'cause I was, yet again, rushed.
The FJ61 is actually an FJ62 per the tag under the hood. It has a carb'd 3F engine and a 5-spd. Single headlights, clam-shell rear just like US 60-Series but with a rear tire carrier on the outside. Fold and tumble 3rd row seats. This vehicle also came from the Middle East. I didn't ask the price on this one.
The troopies are from OZ. He said he has a troopy coming with a camper on the rear and he has more Land Cruisers coming.
The Patrol is $5,500 (about $5000 more that I thought it was worth. )
I also believe they had the ambulance style doors on the back (8 seater?)... I had a friend that was in Alice Springs for work last year- I was trying to have find me one- but he never came through and now he's back in the states.
I did find a website that does sell the rear slider windows and ambulance doors though if anyone is interested.
this is for the fj61 from the first page of this thread... don't blame the rookie, he's new...
my wife and I stopped by there tonight. It was cool to see the troopies and the 62 with the sweet upholstery. But the 40 was something special. I was just excited to hear it had power steering and AC. The digital clock was sweet too. The best was the LWB. That truck was awesome! Unbelievable really. I was a little disappointed when I sat in it though...
I am too tall!!!
My knees were hitting the steering wheel and I was waiting for the cramps. Damn it! I got a pretty good death stare when I suggested selling everything we owned and living in the back of the truck.
