Quick question. What purpose do the inspection plates play on the truck? Located in the bed floor, front toward headache rack. Thanks.

Good question. Access plates. They were NOT on the earlier beds and if not needed it would have been easier to use solid ribbed panels as done earlier. Parts book does not show additional parts for an intended use.

Have considered possibly for under-mounted batteries, but opening seems too small for a drop-in. Maybe some type of storage/toolbox, but not sealed to keep out water. Also considered possible military uses in some markets, which might indicate why no additional parts show up. Not sure how the jihadists are mounting their AA guns, but let's hope Toyota wasn't designing anything specifically for them !

Bear,

Good points. I am trying to figure out a tie down point for the bed and some pages for a possible road trip. Was thinking about using a bolt or two in those panels. Not large though. I was wondering if a Jerry can fits in there for fuel? With some type of cage underneath. No real structure close by under those.

Hope you had a good weekend.

I have been reversing my 45 and have modified those openings for batteries. In my case on on each side. Yes the openings are small but I have two small batteries to fit. The reason is I am installing a Mercedes 606 and need al the room for that. Will try and get pice when I get home to the shop in a couple of weeks.
