Fj45 65 or 67, Which cab to build?

Yeah, they are IFS. If they were not I would put the cab on the 100.

It'll work fine. It will be a lot of work, but it is absolutely possible. The wiring is a lot more difficult than an LS. That's probably the biggest hurdle. It's also not tunable with the stock ECU, so you either run down stream O2s, an emulator or you have a MIL on all the time. Same with EVAP and some other stuff.

100s are IFS.

Does it have to be tuned? Using the entire 100 harness as the starting point will it still run after I start removing parts of the harness I do not need such as air bags?

I have never done any work with ecu's so I am really green. I am willing to spend the time to figure it out if i can find the information I need to do so.

Certain things are going to set off the MIL in any OBDII vehicle. Downstream O2s, EVAP. You can try to keep them, or just let the light come on and ignore it. 2UZ should be able to function without the wheel speed sensors if you have the stock VSS. The security system might be another sticking point. The good part is that it's been done, so there's experienced people out there to answer questions.

IronPig offroad put the 2UZ in scott ryans pig IIRC.

Gumby, I appreciate the help but the more I look at this the harder some of these swaps seem. I really like the idea of keeping an all stock toyota drivetrain for longevity and serviceability. I have been researching all kinds of different motor options and keep coming back to wanting to keep it all toyota. Since I already have a 1fz-fe I am considering just using this set up. I figure it will probably handle better with the lighter fj45 body and lost weight

I have read the Project X build where he did this originally but installed the radiator in the bed. Does anyone know if a 1fz-fe has been installed in a 40 or 45 and been able to keep the radiator under the hood? I have searched and could not find an example.

Never mind I found some builds with what I was looking for.

There's a bloke on here who dropped a HJ47 ute cab on a HZJ75 chassis and it all fit. The 1HZ and the 1FZ both fit under the hood of the 75, so by rights it should fit.

I found several builds with either a fj45 or fj40 with a 1fz-fe installed.

Gumby, I found your build really nice. I can not remember but did you end up keeping the 80 series radiator or install a fj45 style?

Fj80 wont fit between the headlight buckets. Stock 4 core will struggle keeping cool. I would suggest an aluminum 40 style.

It might work if you went to an LED style headlight that was flat, but you'll start running into the lower part of the fender inners.

I have finally picked a direction for my build. I plan to put the 65 cab on a 80 series chassis. I picked up parts 80 series to build the 80 series platform it came with a 1fzf carbureted version, with a manual h151f five speed, split t-case, manual hubs, and ARB lockers. I went this direction to avoid having to deal with the ecu wiring. not my strength. I cannot start the build until I clear some of the other cruiser parts out of the garage, the project before the project. So the build will be off to a slow start. My question is where should I start my build thread. in this section or the hard core section? I don't plan to use it for hard core type wheeling, just overland type adventure and mid range "technical" trail exploration.
