I have a 75 fj40 that lost a bearing in the trans. Do you guys think I should replace it with a used one from sonebody on here or replace the bearings. Does anybody have one for sale. I am in NJ. Thanks

Your choice.
The input shaft bearing isn't that hard to replace. You just need to remove the bearings on the counter shaft first to lower it and get the input shaft out.

A used tranny is easy too, but you don't necessarily know what shape it is in. Output shaft spline wear is always an issue, so check this first.

Agreed. I'd make the call based on the tailshaft too.

How hard is it to get the transfer case seperated from the trans?

Just depends. If it has been off recently, it may not be that bad. If it has never been off, it can be a real PITA. There are 5 bolts that hold the case to the transmission - 2 of them inside the PTO cover. Then you have to remove the nut on the end of the tranny output shaft. You can fashion a puller to remove the transfer case which can really help things. Do a search on here to see what the puller looks like.

Good luck!
