I have a stock 1978 FJ40 with 31x10.50 BFG's. I was wondering if anyone has any information (pics would be nice) about moving the axles to the underside of the springs for a small 1" or 2" lift. What are some pros and cons of doing this. I plan on putting a rough country 4" suspension lift on it this summer..........will doing the spring over effect this at all.

Thanks,
Doug Moore

Do a search on spring overs or check the tech section for full out plans. A spring over is gonna run closer to 5"-6" of lift BTW. You're not gonna run 4" springs on top of that.

tech links will answer 99% of your questions. 5" lift minimum with the SOA, and it's MORE expensive than a lift kit if done correctly.

Plus, I'd shoot my Cruiser, set it afire, and push it off a cliff before considering a Rough Country, aka Hell Creek lift kit.

Keep that crap offa there!!!

A friend would keep another's keys before letting him defile his rig like that.

Get any other lift kit (Skyjacker, Black Diamond, BDS, Superlift, to name a few) before a RC or HC lift,... hell, even go with extended shackles, if you want it cheap.

But that's just my opinion, and my $0.02

damn...didn't even read the lift brand.....if Rough Country is your choice, then I suggest setting up bi-weekly appointments with your Chiropractor. Also, carry a high lift, bottle jack and a LONG prybar, cause you will be inverting shackles regularly...

if you surf..do that for the next month and research the hell out of a SOA on the net at nite..get to know ever bolt and then go for it..

I researched it some more and realized that it would be around 5" of lift and that it would be a lot of trouble to reweld the brackets to the top of the axels.........I'll probably go with the skyjackers suspension lift..........rough country was just the cheaper choice and being 17 years old, it seemed fine with me. I'm sure I don't have a jeep, they suck, I'll include a picture.

Doug

P.S. I'm not mechanically innept... ;)

Your bezel is upside down. :flipoff2:
:birf: :bust: :bust2: :birf:

Good to know your not mechanically inept. But you may want to work on spelling.
Skyjacker is a good choice.
I dunno, that cruiser looks so good stock I almost wouldn't want to put a lift on it if it was mine.
