Just wanted to share my experience with fitting new seats in my 84 fj40. I have the factory rear seating from the LXversion (3across the back) but they are just not safe enough for my kids in today's standards so a change was needed. I found a full interior from a 2015 ford territory with the 3rd row seats. Fronts seats fit perfect with minor Fabing and the rear seat fits on top of the wheel wells and can also fold flat and are simply perfect in my opinion for this vehicle. It's nice have matching front and rear leather seating. The rear seating also came with seat belts which mounted directly to the roll bar. Whole project was completed in a day for my average skills. Seats are super comfortable just out today for an offroad tour and no complaints. Will post some pictures.

The factory seats place the passenger right on the edge of the vehicle and with a soft top or no top my kids were just too close to the edge of the vehicle. They also have no head rests which was another concern. New seats place passenger away from vehicle edge and the seat belts that come with the 3rd row ford seats bolted straight onto the roll cage.
I still have original seating to go back in should that ever be required. Just letting people know these seats work great as a possible option.

I think that those seats look really good. I have no idea what a Ford Territory is but I would put those front seats in my troopy in a heart beat.

Very nice fit for the old 40, are you going to get them engineered??

Ol'40
No i have no plans to have an engineer sign off on the modification. The seats utilize all the original mounting points and the shorty was factory registered with seating for 6 so i think I'm good.

I will post a photo showing how the rear seat folds flat which is great option to have in the old girl. It also has the benefit of having a storage space under the rear seat as well.

I didn't know that the ford territory wasn't sold in the US so sorry about that but there must be something with a similar set up.

Looks amazing aussie40, I'm interested in seeing more pictures of the rear seats mounting locations.
i just bought myself a 3rd seat from a territory that i still have to mount in. so it will help alot :) thanks

That's an fj40?????? Holy crud, I had to re-read your original post to confirm that it was indeed a 40. My '71 could not look more different, kind of like a big ride-on lawn mower, an old one covered with rust, and a dull blade. But that's why I love it! Anybody need their grass cut?

Hi all,
Thanks for the positive comments. I recently remounted the rear seat to a higher standard than before and I will post a picture of the mounts if you want. Still very happy with these seats overall perfect fit and comfortable.

Hi Aussie40, im still interested in seeing some photos of how you mounted the rear seat. I'm going to do the same conversion on my fj.

@V8FJ4078 is correct - equivalent to the Freestyle in the US. This set up is legit - could become my winter project. Would love to see some more pics.

The Ford Territory adopted some of the styling cues from the Freesytle and Taurus X but its based on the Australian Ford Falcon
