Does anyone locally have an FJ40 receiver hitch they can sell/recommend/part with? I'm just about to order one from JT Outfitters but would much rather get one from a local maker/supplier/soon-to-be former owner.

78Cruzr fabbed up a sweet hitch last year. The thread should be here on HDC

Find another source. JTO is not a company I would recommend. Do a search.

I have heard a lot of negative about JTO, but have not experienced it first hand. They were very helpful in providing tech support on how to use their front disc brake kit on a rear FF. I may be the exception, not the norm though.

They're a standard unit, maybe to more than Landcruisers. Try the Toyota recyclers downtown.

i have one from my 80, you are welcome to see if you can make it work somehow, might be a start? ala hackenstein it?

Thanks guys. I try to keep these things local. I'll see what I can track down. Years ago I used a receiver hitch from an Isuzu Trooper on my 83 FJ40 and it worked great, but they are probably even harder to come by(c:

Good CAD pics on that link, thanks. I suspect those and $75 ought to see me walking out of a fabricator with what I want inside of a week:grinpimp:

Now that I don't need Big Brother's stamp of approval on anything I add to Lexie, I have a list of toys which need to be added....

This came in while I was typing the last message.

I've never seen an 80 series one off the rig. Do they bolt on like the 40 series or are they on a 2" cross bar like on the Hilux? I'd love to give it a go if you aren't using it anymore. How much do you want for it?

well then we are even. i've never seen a hitch on a 40 :D

it bolts up to the bottom of the frame with 3 big bolts on each side.

i'll take some pics tonight since i am EM and that would be a trek for you to just look at it.

Edit: forgot about guy's stuff, my 80 receiver is HUGE overkill but would get you the receiver i guess...

Josh,

If you need me to help you narrow down and do some mods to John's receiver, let me know. I'm located between John and Barry.

The local U Pull it does have some Troopers so might be worth a looksie on their website. It's very well organized, right down to the row #.

Thanks Ali,

By the way, I got my building permit today and the bloke is starting the wall this arvo. I hope to be ready for the gate in a fortnight (2 weeks) or so.

Feel like doing a bit of welding on the front of my rig? I need to put that FJ62 axle under her before it snows.

If I don't get a job, I'm available.

This one cost me $5 at a garage sale...

Of course I wouldn't haul a *lot* with it without beefing it up and shortening it, but they're out there...

I think I may just splurge on a welder and make one.

That is a fantastic idea. But you can find those of us with them to help make it if you hold off for some silly reason =)

That receiver would be a bit big I reckon. Of course with that diesel powered welder on craigslist..... :-)
