Still searching :bang: I'm constantly monitoring this forum, CL, even Ebay!
Looking for a post '75 with good condition 2F (even an older year with transplant) I'd prefer a hardtop but that's not a deal breaker. Looking to stay right at 10k or less...
Thanks for any help!

Willing to travel for the right rig or have it shipped!

Had a wild hair and bid on this 40... I went to $9,400 but the reserve still was not reached :censor:
Still trying to learn how to navigate my way to a 1st 40 but no luck again... Thought about contacting the seller (he left a #) to see if he would like to sell without the ebay mess but need to know from those of you that are more knowledgable... Was I way off? Any thoughts as to the value?
Thanks...

In my opinion I think that your offer is probably more than fair because of the poor condition of the body. The biggest problem that I see with that 40 is the amount of costly bodywork that is needed to make it a really nice truck. The rear corners look like they have had previous bodywork done that is now failing and the owner even notes in his video that it needs a new tub. It looks like the owner has put a lot of good work into it but much of that work was for required maintenance so it adds value but I don't think he will be able to recoup his costs. In these days of high 40 prices the bidding only made it to $7100 so that should give you a good idea of the value...

Well, for perspective, I found mine at the end of December on Ebay. Seller was two miles away. I was the first to respond. He was asking 11k. Body has no rust. Runs strong. He finally confessed he'd take 10k, and we had a deal. Day after New Years I drove it home. Check out my two threads on the purchase and figuring out the brake problem. Can't stress enough how important getting one with minimal rust is. Everything else is just running down replacement parts for what the PO messed up. Be patient, but be ready to jump when it's time!

Today may be my day to "jump when it's time"! I'll update later...

I did see this... I do like the older trucks but from what I'm reading (mostly on this forum) a 2F is the way to go if possible!
The other 40 you mentioned looks great!
Thanks...

Update on my quest: Looked at and drove a '79 here in Atlanta this past weekend... I ended up having reservations although it seemed to be a pretty good deal and decided to keep looking :bang: I do want to recognize fellow Mudder Tim (great guy) who went way beyond the call of duty in helping me!

You didn't want a '79 anyway, right? '77 or '78 or forget it!

I'm in Atlanta too, what 79 did you look at?

'79 FJ40.webp
Here's a picture of it... Located in Decatur area on CL. It sold on the day it was posted!

First, personal preference based solely on looks - the rounded bezel on all pre 79s looks better than the more rectangular bezel on '79 and later. Second, and this might not affect you in Georgia, but in the thousands of threads I've read, comments have been made on the thinner body metal on '79 and later, making them more susceptible to rust. Other than that....

If it matters to you... Catalytic Converter was added in '79...

Yeah, oh crap, the dreaded cataclysmic converter...
