Just wondering.........

Has anyone blocked off the heat riser on a FJ40 2F stock exhaust manifold either using a block off plate or welded a plate over the heat riser opening and installed the stock intake and exhaust independently without bolting together?

You would need to grind the bottom of the stock intake to clear the bolt heads and maybe shave some off the underside of the intake.

The intake would install as if you were using a header but with the stock exhaust manifold.

They use the same mounting bolts and there's no good reason to install them except as a unit. I did modify an exhaust to blank off the heat riser, damper, and EGR port.

I would think two independent units would be easier to align with the ports and the independent units would mate to the head better.

When I bolt my intake to the exhaust manifold and dry fit the gasket, the gasket is a little off and hangs into the port a little bit on one side.
