I'm trying to find a good spot to mount my 2.5 gal VIAIR tank on my 1981 FJ40. I want to try to mount the tank underneath the tub because I want to try to keep the rear bed open and the jump seats in place. I'm also thinking of rerouting the exhaust which could make room for the ank.
Anyone have any ideas or tried this?
Thanks-

I am thinking about making a storage bin similar to the Aqualu storage box and sticking the tank in there. Access from inside the cab with an option to disconnect and remove the tank from above would be nice. Maybe a couple gallon water tank in there too.

Just ideas...

that seems like a lot of unnecessary work...

How often are you going to need to remove the tank?

Mine will be mounted underneath the back of the bed as well...

www.airbagit.com (lowrider site) has tons of tanks for cheap... (aluminum 3 gal is like $60)

Good link on the air tanks.

My thought is that I didn't want a bunch of stuff hanging off the bottom. I know it's only a tank and some hoses. A storage space would nice to keep the tank, hoses, tools and other crap from rolling around inside.

Making it removable wouldn't take a whole lot more effort. You are right, it probably wouldn't come out often, but I think the option is worth something.

Anything to increase good storage space on a 40 is worth the extra effort to me.
