Ladies and Gents,
I recently purchased a second hand 8274 for my 40. After reading some of the tech articles here, I decided it'd be a good move to rebuild her, and throw in a lower seal / brake kit ect. (first attempt at rebuilding a winch!)
First things first, the clutch release mech wouldnt pull out.. Looking at the pics you can see why
rusted!!
Then ( i dont know how) I moved the winch around on the bench to remove the top cover and the brake pawl spring flew off, along with the protective cap. (you can see from the pics that the alloy cast 'rod' which appears to be a casted part of the lower housing assy, snapped off
Now obviously I'd hate to see what a complete lower assy is worth to replace. From my little knowledge, it only looks as if this 'rod' simply retains the spring and has a bolt screwed into the top of it / has no excessive pressure placed upon it? As there is a considerable ammt of alloy at the base, could I tap a thread, place a long bolt with a sleve over it to retain the spring and place the cap back on?
cheers and I appreciate the help!
