As the title says, I have a 73 FJ40, SOA with 60 series axle and steering. I am in the process of SOA and need to think about Hy-Steer options. After all is said and done and with the added cost of Ruff Stuffs SOA perches, my budget has hit the wall. I would like to buy Marlin's complete hy-steer kit (with a modifed draglink to fit the 40's pitman placement), but it will be out budget for a few a while. IS it possible to use Marlin's Hy-steer arms with the stock 60 series drag link and tie rod for short term purposes? Is it even possible to do this?

I think you night run into an issue with the pittman arm to the steer arm....
I seem to recall someone saying that it is too long.

Please post pics of the build, if you would.

Pretty sure the taper of the rod ends is wrong. The Marlin arms are set up for 80 series ends.

Looks like I just need to do this right and have Marlin make my drag link a little shorter than a 60 series, but longer than a 40 series and go with his hy-steer kit. I forgot that they use 80 series TREs.

As for posting pics, lots of people ahve done this, but once I get it all together, I will post some jpegs.

I was under the impression that 60 series tapers and 80 series tapers were the same . I could be wrong though.

From what I understand, they are the same, but I am not 100% sure on this.

They are not the same. The 60 taper is larger at the pitman arm, of that I am sure. I can't verify that the other TRE's are the same, so I can't help you there. My setup is a 62 front axle with some old highsteer arms, running 80 TRE's, and I had to get a special cone spacer from Luke at 4x4Labs to run the 80 TRE in my 60/62 pitman arm.

The relay rod ends are different between a 60 and an 80 but I can't find evidence that says the tie rod ends are different.

Thanks guys. I am going with Orangefj45's knuckle arms/ends and will have marlin make my rods and the sleeve for the pitman.
