So I'm getting ready for Cruise Moab this year and was prepping the '78 40. I looked at my stock center console and knew I needed to up my game so I could hold my 42 oz mug so I decided to give my 3d printer a shot.

I used the model design from Functional Print Friday as I think his design is clean and simple.

Here are the results:

Fits like a glove and the matte gray finish is perfect.

As far as printer setup -- I have a Bambu X1- Carbon and I ended up using ABS - GF plastic.

I may print a extra or two, very happy with the outcome.

Thank you for the link. Downloaded the zipfile for when I get my 3d printer. Laptop just blew the bluetooth again - had a dongle so mouse up and running again. Was hoping to wait until like September for a new laptop when windows ten dies but I'm thinking a new laptop first - the prices sure seem to have went up.

Rainy day project complete - I did end up having to squish the width by 1mm, it was a bit snug into the opening. Unfortunately, my phone case doesn't allow it to fit into the square slot, but could be a easy tweak to widen a smidge.

I need to tune my slicer a bit, but overall it'll do. 😄

Probably a bit in the gray area - the kindly designer put it up for free, but with a "NonCommercial — You may not use the material for commercial purposes." Creative Commons license.

I poked at one of the print-houses like Shapeways.com - seems like about $41 to print in ABS, so not terrible, given it's a bigger/longer print.

Looks great! Glad you used Gluten Free plastic ;)

A buddy of mine made me 2 on his printer, and both are too tight to fit by about 1mm. I will take a belt sander to the sides them, until they see things my way ;). My old Android phone does fit the phone slot, however!

What a moron - and no, I am not smarter than a '78 FJ40 console....

After belt sanding my first one and tapping, I slightly mangled it trying to get it out - note the damage. I had to remove the bottom floor of the steel console to get it out - and, wah-lah! - that is the solution.

Disassemble the console floor and insert the cupholder from the bottom. No sanding needed - drops right in (or 'up' as the case may be).
