Was looking at Tacoma's and FJ's at the local dealer today and he infomred me that Toyota had stopped produciton of the FJ's and that they were going to be rare and collectors items!! To think, the Trial team never mentioned that this past week-end. Anyone else hear this?

I hope it's true. For sure that's the only way I'd ever have of selling mine when I move to Dalmatia.
New carnage yesterday at URE. That pesky tree on Daniel that's always just missed got me this time.

Perfect match on the right for the old Mtn View Estates/Gulches dents on the left quarter.

Things you see when you forget your chain saw. Oops! sorry Heather.

Dealers don't know D!ddly! I've heard someone else "who knew someone high up at Toyota" say that they'd have diesel FJ's next year. Just rumors going round. Dealers will say whatever they want to get you to buy. Most dealers don't even know the Trail Team exists!

Well, the salesman was a bit, how shall I put this....stupid. He was explaining to me the limited slip differential in the FJ. And like you pointed out, he had no idea Toyota has such a thing as a Trail Team. But he did walk over to another salesperson to verify that they are discontinued and "will be rare"!. I just found it funny with the appearant good sales and dollars put into funding the Trail team that there is this rumour.

we'll see

it was on one of the the automotive sites as well, just read it yesterday. they are also shelving the supra project for now to proceed with the joint project with subaru.

hee hee maybe theyll bring it back after a lil R & D instead of going straight from concept to creation this time??? Awesome lil package, it could only get better from what they have learned so far. solid axle, diesel, removable top, visibility :D

bill.... both trees got me on daniel last month too

Same issue raised on the FJ tech forum, with the source of info being some sort of "spy" automotive report. Sounds like Toyota may ditch the FJC in 2010. They've ditched other great vehicles over the years like the Cresida, so who knows . . . . I'm waiting for Woody to chime in. Sales have been slow this year, with something like 185 sold in the S.E. region in July.

Hailing frequency opened . . .

Ok, Woody, what's up?

Toyota Kills FJ Cruiser and The Supra In One Fell Swoop - AutoSpies Auto News

I really like the FJC. If it does quit production I would think the majority of whats left would make it's way into the offroading community. Only time will tell and you never know. Rumors are just that. Rumors.

What I would like to see is the 40 come back. Just a simple restyled version of that. Simple basic. If Jeep can do it Toyota can do it and better. I cannot tell you how many Jeeps I see on the road. That is a big chunk that Toyota is missing.

Toyota is resting on their laurels, in my opinion. Everything looks the same in their lineup, save the FJC, now they're going to stop production. Hopefully, this is just a preliminary long term plan, and can change as the market changes. It doesn't take any extra money to continue building it as is. I would like to see some changes made, but it works pretty well as is.

If they do discontinue the FJ, I think I am gonna buy me another one and put it in the garage. In 30 years, it will be the pig of the 2000's like the FJ55 was to the 1970's. Oh...and order lots of OEM parts so that enthusiasts in the future can restore them after they sit in back yards for years rotting away.

If nothing else its big and ugly like a pig.

Not sure that would be a smart return on your investment seeing how cheap all of us Cruiserheads are. I feel sorry for anyone trying to sell a rig on this board, unless it is just a screaming deal and you are taking a loss. Now maybe a TT SE with like 14 miles might fetch what the MSRP is now in 30 years. But 30k could be 100k in 30 years if invested in other means. Like LAND. Just giving you a hard time. I am sure you were kidding.

doesn't really effect me either way. Never saw anything in it in the beginning and haven't seen anything to date to change my mind.

I say:flipoff2: the 40, :flipoff2: the FJ and bring in some 70 series. They are already being produced, 2 steps above an FJ and diesel. I've read where the gov't may drop air bags as a reg so then it's just emissions and lighting.

If they drop the FJ I predict they will be equivalent to the Mustang IIs in the Ford line up. Ahh, maybe not, I think the T100 already has that spot.

The FJC is a big, heavy gas guzzler. And like Jason pointed out, the ultimate trail abilities were hamstrung by the design concept. Demand is probably waning rapidly. Whoever is going to buy them probably has by now.
Furthermore IMO they're not making any money on them. I was very surprised when I happened to price one. The more I studied it the surpriseder I got. If they'd kept going like they did when they took off they'd have had to raise the prices. But they didn't so they ditch it.
How about this: the RAV4 and Highlander are in redesign: What if they build in some FJC-type trail hardware for them?
Also: "Did you note No Long Term Plans For The Land Cruiser" in Marshall's link?
I'd like to think they'll stay up against J**p in the ORV segment, and the RAV4 or Highlander or both would be a good platform for that. But I'm thinking that sport is near 'bout doomed, at least on public land. Did you notice how dead Tellico was? Lodge closed, motel for sale, campgrounds and trails virtually empty. When I was at URE Saturday the Outpost was filled up with big K5 and P/U rigs but the trails were empty. I'm thinking it was the annual meet for a club and they all went out in a parade.
What market's there will be dominated by J**p, just like the vertical twin cruiser bike market is nailed shut by H/D. The people that produce 90% of that market are all about image; quality and ability have nothing to do with the appeal.

I yield the soapbox.

I like my FJC...but I still think and have preached it for awhile that Toyota needs to bring back a 40-style rig to compete with the Wrangler. There is NOTHING on the market right now w/ a short wheel base and removable top that competes with the Wrangler. I don't understand...

I like the FJC and it's better than I thought it would be overall, but never enough to have considered buying one. Now, a redesigned 40? In a heartbeat. A 70? Absolutely. My guess is that the 70 isn't coming. Probably not much of a market for it without the removable top and the US market would consider it one ugly truck. I also doubt they'll redesign a 40... also a limited market and while Jeep has a monopoly on that market, they are also a very loyal market so tapping into it would not be easy.

I think we are relegated to buying used trucks that we like. Worked for me so far. (b/t/w, not selling SORF afterall... must be hormones or something)

if only we could be this lucky. maybe all cruiserheads should start petitioning toyota now

TuCarro.com Venezuela - Toyota - MACHO - 5.000 Kms. - Bs.F. 193.000,00

I make that about $90K. Hard to sell that against the Wrangler. It'd be bad though.

Cruiserheads Petition Toyota. Hah! They won't even listen to the Trail Team suggestions.

My bet is 98% of the FJCs out there are Starbucks/Mall cruisers. They should be going cheap in five years, maybe less. Buy one and do a Cado and you've got your dreamboat.

I admit that the FJC is "hamstrung" by its concept. With that said, it still does very well and does compete with the Jeep market. Maybe its maximum potential is limited but it is still quite competent and capable in relation to "most" Jeeps out there.

I just drove mine over 8300 miles, doing Rubithon, trails in CA and AZ, Moab (Moab Rim, Hells Revenge, Poison Spider to name a few) and hitting the relatively tame but majestic trails in Ouray, then drove it back home. The only damage that it incurred was to my wallet, sucking gas like big bore V8. I couldn't ask for a more reliable and capable off-road vehicle that has taken on most everything I've laid in front of it.

Will I be sad if Toyota discontinues it, not really. Mine is way beyond collector status (though I still have all the stock parts I took off) so that is off the table. My issue will be with the availability of continued support by the aftermarket companies for parts and improvements. Once its "official", resources to develop more parts will stop and the companies will be looking for another market to capture.

Yet, being one who thrives on trying to be as "unique" as possible, mine will have to stay in the stable for a long time coming...
