FJ/BJ40 A/C idler pulley pics and questions?

Can anyone tell me how to change the bearing in my A/C idler pulley for late model FJ/BJ40,42? I dont see how I can it? any fix for this frozen pulley? Has anyone seen one like this or have any ideas?

That looks to me like you will need to replace the whole assembly also. I am not sure when Toyota moved to idlers with replaceable bearings but my 87 Toyota PU had idlers that looked very much like that with replaceable bearings.

Have you tried pressing from the side in the last picture toward the rear on the inner silver surface?

I have not tried yet, I have taken it to Auto repair today and they said it doesnt look like it can be rebuilt? My other idler pulley for P/S is a replaceable bearing 6302 but I was hoping someone knew about this one?

here is 2 more pics, frt and back with shaft out. that round bushing tube goes in the middle and then the bolt slides through it?

You should be able to find a generic pulley at NAPA or someone like that.

yeah, was at the tractor supply store today looking, so evidentally it is not rebuildable huh? I can hear the bearings slopping around inside and it is froze up as well.

grind

Grind off the four pressed tabs , press out from the other side, go to bearing supply, match numbers, press new bearing in, ungrind tabs ! Viola!!!

That idler pulley looks just like a mini truck idler pulley. Might be cheaper to just grab one from a junk yard?

I am wanting everything to be new for my resto, it looks like if I grind tabs off that I still would not be able to get out? I will look into it deeper and let u know. I thought about drilling those little dipples out trying to take apart and then pt back together with bolts?

well we were able to rebuild the A/C idler pulley by pulling back those 4 small tabs and that washer behind it came out then pounded them out, there were 2 bearings in there in which I went to NAPA they sized them brought them back pounded back in and then pressed down the tabs back over the washer, simple as that thank goodness. Toyota wants $500 for that idler???? anyway I appreciate all the help, I rebuilt the P/S idler as well which was much simpler. This A/C idler was totally shot inside to a point of the bearings melting.

Would you happen to have those bearing numbers? I am sure someone in the future will need them. Glad you got your idler repaired.

I will search for the reciepts, did not think of that, but good idea, becuase it was a pain finding these, not really, very common bearings actually.
