So here is where I am at:

I have a 69 FJ-40. It is a non-runner at this point. Powersteering was done and power brake booster. It has a 350 tbi to a 700r4 and 205. I have not even started it as it was bought as a project. Both axles are already disc'd and sprung over. The front is a stock axle with cross over/high steer and an ARB Locker. The rear is a full-float from an FJ-80 with limited slip and as mentioned, discs.

Enter my second FJ-40. I just bought it this week. 73 with original 6cyl, three speed, Confer rear tank, full cage, swing away tire rack, Warn winch - it's freaking sweet, I couldn't pass up the deal...plus my wife is sick of the non-runner sitting in the garage.

So comes the advice request: I obviously want to use the full floater rear and the ARB front. Front is not a crisis, bolt it in - done. The rear is cut down with a center differential. Obviously, the transfer in the runner is off-set. So now what?

I have a Spicer T-18 from a Scout 800 mated to a Dana20. Anyone know if there is an adapter to mate the F engine to this tranny? Let's say I keep the 3 speed...is there a bolt on transfercase so I can use that center diff rear-end?

I'm trying to save money and use materials I already have. Once I scuttle the axles from the V8 crusier, I will put the 73's axles under it and sell it, ridding my property of another yard card.....

Sell the rear axle with the centered diff and buy an equivalent setup with an offset diff.

why not run the existing rear axle in the '73 if there's nothing wrong with it  - maybe put an Aussie locker in for $250

sell the project, your wife already hates it

Keep the 73 and sell the project. Pick up a later toyota 4 speed (with belhousing) and the adapter gear from Marks Offroad (for adapting the 4 speed to the early transfer case), bolt it in and go. You will have a great set up which will go anywhere. What's better: a non running project in the garage or a cruiser ready to roll at your every whim? Not to mention a happy wife is a happy life:doh:

why not use the 700r4 in the 73? I have a th400 and am thinking of switching to the 700r4, for the lower 1st gear and the 4th gear on the top end. or...

whats left to do to get the 69 going? it sounds like its set up nicely. get it running and transfer the rear bumper/gate over and the cage, winch, ect...to the 69.:meh:

if you need a good home for that 700r4 I might just have one down the road in red bluff :p
we love pics here on mud so don't be shy ;)

good luck with your project (s).

,Ben

use the front disc axle with the ARB in the 73, sell the rest...buy another ARB for the rear,ad disc ,happy ending=happy wife= no more proyect. or get divorce and keep the 2 fj40,1 for DD 1 for hard core use

There is a good possibility that if you start swapping parts between the two rigs you will have two non runners. It will take upfront money and you will need to reassemble the 69 to sell it for a decent price.
Sell the 69 as is and use the money to set up the 73 the way you want it. The 69 sounds like it could be a good rig for someone else. Selling the 69 would demonstrate an act of good faith.
Drive the 73 for awhile.
