Fitting hard top early 40

Hello everyone,

Thought I would drop in the 25 section because I thought you guys would have a better idea of what i'm talking about. So I have a corrugated hard top and it fits on fine but it has the long pillar neck so I need this piece to get rid of the gap for the tubing to slide into the tub. Like so....




Does anyone know where I could get a piece? Make it bla bla bla???

Or should I just go non old school and find a 64 newer top?

My pillar pieces were cut off by the PO

You have an early high post door pillar hardtop...so now you have a gap right? what year is your truck?

you would need another top and cut that section out of it to make yours a high post again.

Sorry it's not so clear. I have a early 63 and the high post pieces were cut off. But I still have the original high post hard top. I just wanted to know if anyone knew if I would be able to come across a high post tub pillar piece still....

The first pic is of my 63 now. Then the second is the hard top half assed on my dads 72 for now.

We understand, been there. Basically two choices: either put a pillar back on, or fill in the gap on the hardtop.

If you're not a purist I would finish off what the PO did by welding a cap with a hole in the top like the later models. That way a later soft top would fit. It should be relatively straightforward to weld up something to fill in the gap on the hardtop, you've got the contour already. If you're not that crafty, you should be able to get a piece of door channel off a junk tub to make a filler piece.

If you want to replace the pillar, post up in the classifieds, you should be able to find someone with a junk tub (or some of the used parts adveritsers).

I have two options for you. Contact LandCruiserSteve. I send him those pillar pieces and few years back, I don't think he used them. I don't think he is on mud much buck I think somebody here has his Email. Or next time you are in the Phoenix area stop by and I will give you the hard top sides from a 64. The 64 had the same top just not the high pillars.

could he just cut that section from a hardtop and weld it in ....use a plate ontop to finish off like original.
