Was the first year for VSC and TRAC 2000 MY for Lexus as well or just Toyota?

2000 was the first year for the FJ100. Not sure about the LX, might have been sooner as Lexuses often get fancy s*** sooner.

VSC and TRAC were introduced (standard) on the LC and LX for the 2000 model.

just yesterday my Wife said, "did you know VSC is now going to mandatory on new cars- we should get a newer LX". My response, "your car already has it, nice try!"

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I'd really rather have a LC, as I don't want all that fancy stuff. I hate the wood steering wheel and expect the height control will break sometime, plus I'm just not a Lexus type of guy - my wife also hates all the wood.
That being said, it seems there are a lot of LX's out there as opposed to LC - I guess when you are able to spend 65K on a car, what's another 10K, right. I talked to a friend of mine who has an RX300 or whatever it is and he raved on the lexus dealership and the service they offer. Said their salesman remembered them from 4 years ago and they purchased a used vehicle at that time. Their service manager stops and talks to them at the store when they see each other, so I don't know what I'm going to do. They are about the same price.

Again, thanks for the info on VSC.

don't know for sure about the early LX's, but for LC's:

the first year the LC got TRAC or VSC was 2000.

in 1998, the LC did not have TRAC or VSC, but was available with a rear locker as an option.

in 1999, you could get an optional rear locker and optional rear AC.

in 2000, the locker was dropped for the electonic system and rear air became standard.

Ok, so you are sure if I get a 98 or 99 LX it will have VSC and ATRAC?

VSC

2000 was the first year for Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) on the LX470. I researched this extensively as this was a must-have safety feature. It was not available as an option on 98 or 99 models.

tfrain, from all of your posts, you seem very concerned about things breaking, especially nav and ahc. These don't break often. Probably something on the order of 1 in 500. You shouldn't overly worry about problems with either of those systems.

If anything, on either vehicle, you should be concerning yourself with the exhaust manifolds.

Moving on to your question...

For both LX and LC 98 & 99 were differential lock years. For '00+ both models got VSC and ATRAC.

I'd also like to mention that you should rethink the wood steering wheel. Old LC's tend to have worn steering wheels. Lexus service is also a completely different experience than Toyota service.

...

bamachem, when are you going to put clear corners on the beautiful 4runner? :)

Lexus cutomer service is significantly better than Toyota. They are trained to treat you as a valuable person.

The $10K difference only relates to base cost. By the time you add the essentially mandatory "options" to the LC the difference is about $3-4K. Toyota has a bad habit of dealer packs on top of that. When you are about to spend $65K on a new LC, it is worth checking the Lexus dealership for a LX at about $68K. Not much difference for what you gain in vehicle, service, warranty, and treatment.

GST and SET add-ons were probably the best thing that ever happened to LX sales.

is that the Gulf States regional crap they add to all of the vehicles? Last year or two years ago we were going to buy a new 4 runner and I couldn't find one with the freakin side airbags or 3rd row anywhere in the south. I ended up not buying because it is so small, but it was frustrating with all the option packages they have in the various regions. Pretty stupid. I personally like the way honda does their stuff - like the Pilot. They have 5 different versions - LX, EX, EX Leather, EX Leather with DVD, EX Leather with NAVI. Jumping to EXL gets what most people want if they want all the cool stuff. So much simpler and each sticker says the same thing - no having to figure out what this one or that one or the other really is - just pick a color - not 10 different colors with 10 different sets of options. All their options are stealer add ons which you can tell em to go screw themselves and take it off if you don't want it.
