And I received another trophy!!!

a few comments, hopefully seen as constructive.

my basic comment is there is too much stuff going on on a given page here that is distracting and of no value to the user. i want a forum that loads fast and where i can easily get to and focus on the actual thread content. so far, the review would be two thumbs down despite what i am sure are best efforts.

large banner ads trying to sell me dodge caravans or high interest car loans may be necessary for your business plan but they absolutely detract from my experience. if the ads were targeted better i might at least learn about a product i might buy, and i'd certainly find them easier to tolerate. as it is, they are beyond a necessary evil and i can't believe advertisers will pay much to sell toyota fanatics a dodge journey for long.

i may be able to adjust to the different background for quotes, but i am doubtful i will where they appear in sig lines. sig lines were already too big. now the emphasis in the quotes sucks me into reading them over and over and makes it hard to distinguish new content in posts. i do not want to turn quotes off because sometimes they are useful.

i am assuming the number that appears after the original poster's name at the top of a quote is a software bug you are working on.

the trophies are ridiculous. if you are going to use a reputation process i suggest you get one that is useful by allowing us to unlike too and then automatically get rid of a user who is disliked by too many users.

@semlin - If you are seeing more than one ad as a SS member, then you either need to adjust your preferences or get me a screen shot. SS should see one slot. Gold/Vendor zero.

Trophies were already removed.

Ad tags are IDENTICAL to the previous site...IDENTICAL. But I'll start digging to ensure the ads you see are relevant.

Sig lines in the previous site were severely limited. The software didn't care. THIS software and the sig limits have already earned me a bunch of unhappy posters. At least here they work.

My apologies for being unable to dig through everything fast enough. I am still one person, and digging through questions/comments/irritations that no one bothered to note during the TEST phase (where all Subscribed members were invited) is proving challenging.

To repeat, again, we have made NO server tweaks and adjustments since a few days of full traffic baseline was needed. Really, today was the FIRST full day since weekends are always down.

BTW: replies, since there is no page refresh, have been instant for me. And I get a nice notice if I'm mid-reply that someone else has posted and I might want to read it...AND, if I opt to return and reply the next day, or in an hour, my DRAFT is saved in the thread.

When I initially accessed this thread, it took 4.5 seconds to load. Given I'm "off" my home connection and on a shared wifi point, that seems adequate. Obviously not everyone is seeing that.

I reported it to Woody, your trophies have been removed.

:p

Just kidding, see his post above. I went from having 3 likes, 8 points and a trophy to 6 likes, no points and no trophies too!

Feature I just found...when a thread is moved, the option is there to NOTIFY the thread participants that it was moved...what a concept :)

That's awesome. No more pictures of me on the right. Forum is now full screen.

somebody liked you?:hmm:
really?:moon:
that must have cost you dearly.:flipoff2:
;)
<yep, the smilies work>

somebody liked you?:hmm:
really?

I was surprised, as well.

Figured out it was merely a "Like" on a post, with no real affinity attached, for which I'm glad, since I've worked hard to maintain the well deserved status of arsehole.

It's only a matter of time before a new trophy is added to both our cases...

"Gumby don't like you."

Have received PMs, text, and emails asking if I was still alive, due to inactivity in the past week or so. Can't figure out if genuine concern or an early sign of the vulture circle, due to aforementioned status.

To keep it tech....

On iPad, now.... Still can't wait for app..

you made me spew my coffee ...
:D

first off, no rush on fixing this stuff. i realize you have a ton on your plate. and sorry if i seem discouraging. i wanted to give you honest feedback. i realize that as a longtimer i am resistant to change and maybe too much so. the comments i made were those that i thought might apply generally to a mud user, but take them for what they are worth.

re: sig lines. i think the problem is i cannot distinguish them from posts and so i start reading them, especially if they have quotes in them. i think the different background in the quotes is part of the problem.

re: speed -- much better later yesterday and now today.

re: ads. my banner ads today are for a new subdivision in the outskirts of calgary, about 400 miles away, and for a digital tv service not yet available where i live. my work ip rotates between several canadian cities so i assume it is currently out of calgary and i am seeing completely generic ads for that region. yesterday i had new car ads and car loan ads, so there was some thematic connection.

re: number of ads. i am down to one banner ad at a time now. for a while yesterday i had two. i flipped the gold start switch over even though i don't have one so maybe that did it.

speed remains good

eh...I haven't been impressed this evening, but a Media member on another forum on my server was uploading a few hundred images...need to work on timing :)

I've got a long list of little adjustments to try...just letting the current batch settle first. async ad delivery is on the list in a few weeks, will experiment on the test site first to ensure I don't break everything :)

Swype wasn't working again ;)

lol

I think a lot of stuff is browser related , tried the site on Exploder and had ads all over the place . FireFox v-whatever with Ghostery installed is working great with no tracking whatsoever .

I'm the same as above , could care less if everyone "likes" me or any crap about trophies and such . I'm not out to score points , but instead help others fix their junk and keep things on the road that actually belong there . Marketing has taken over the world in such a manner it's a race to stay ahead of it , one serious downfall to us all one way or another .
Sarge

@Weber Sarge - Likes are not about "you" as much as they are about the content you post...what IS nice is the ability to "like" your post should cut down on the "hey, great idea" posts that have been made in the past...should help keep the content ratio higher, and make reading through threads easier.

Same as they always have been, ads are filtered based on usergroup. Guest/not-logged-in visitors see the "full load" and registering a username instantly cuts that back...10+ posts cuts more ads, 250+ cuts more and Supporting cuts all but one.
