Some more updates on progress. Took two bad transmission covers cut them in half and made one good one. Also got the wheels mounted up and assembled the roller. Nice to take a little time and put something together!!

Did you powdercoat those wheels? What color did you use? They look good!
Thanks. The wheels and frame are painted with acrylic urethane paint. It looks good and is pretty durable. The color is a dark charcoal. I don’t have the code for it because it was a mistake can that I got cheap at the auto paint store. It’s not a Toyota factory color. I just wanted a charcoal and wasn’t too worried about which one. The problem is ever needing to fix it. I have a gallon and plan to use it on bumpers and accessories. I hope to have some leftover if I ever need to repaint something

1. If you bought new LS square front motor mounts, I'd buy your old triangle mounts (unless you just used adapters).
2. For rear tank look at my ebay #264033688625 and #253592985106.
3. Your Saginaw installation was horribly home made, I believe you need all but the actual gear box replaced, I can provide more info on this through PM. But in the mean time look at my ebay #261702058064, it would dramatically clean up your steering plumbing.

Thanks for the feedback. Wanted to get back to you on your questions. I did just use adapter plates for the motor mounts so I am using the old adapter plates. I am also going with the stock fuel tank and an external pump and regulator.

As for the Saginaw, I totally agree with you. Not sure if you were looking at the pics during my teardown or the later ones. I have cleaned up the mounting plate. Most of what the PO did was butcher work and I've been busy correcting it. I'm really only using the box. I need new lines, steering shaft and putting in a new 2" steering column. I haven't seen your auction yet. Do you have some solutions for the setup?

Thanks again
Andy

KTM96,

I can work up a parts list for you, but need to know what the spline count is on your gear box input shaft, and need to know if your hose fittings are SAE flare fittings (5/8" and 11/16") or Metric O-ring (16mm and 18mm). Probably best to take a conversation over to Private Messages

Also note the trickery hiding the body lift I was pretty happy with how it worked out. More pics of the steering setup. Added a before pic as well

I'm just glad to see another Wisconsin Cruiser fanatic cause it's lonely here :bang: I'm going to follow your build! Oh, and by the way, those solid aluminum rims have always been a favorite of mine. Simple, classy, outright awesome.

Maybe most wisco folks are smart enough to stay away from these things!
I am over by Milwaukee and about 20 years ago I bought every FJ40 (and 1 FJ55) I could find in a 50 mile radius. Wish I still had every one of them :frown:

Hi mate.

Jealous of your winter and your truck! Love the V8's and love the earlies. Can I make two suggestions?

  1. Install the ribbed '67 dash into your '68. Much classier!
  2. If your budget allows, run a split case transfer. They're far superior and the 'propellor' type crossmember on the one piece case is prone to leak, especially given the LS has more torque than the F135 ever had!

Ace build mate, keep it up!

Love the winter. Haha you wouldn’t love this. That’s why I’m doing this project

I remember those winters around Elkhart Lake. Not much you could do outside without skis or snowshoes, lol. Great build, perfect inside job!

If you haven’t done anything with those FST tailgate hinges on the original yellow tub I know someone who could use those :).

[/ I still have them if you need them

Absolutely no rush. Thanks!
