we just came back on from a tour up 4 Peaks Road and down the other side, returning on Beeline: fire on the Sugarloaf side right at the Sugarloaf exit

couldn't take a picture with all the smoke

seems to have been stopped as far as we can see from the house now . . .

I actually called this one into 911. I drove up when the fire was trying to be extinguished by a couple a folks (who I assume set it accidentally). By the time I was 10 seconds past them, the fire had completely engulfed a 6 ft. tall bush and was headed west very quickly. That is when I called it in. Good to hear it was under control pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, this may be one of those years, so far we have Yarnell, Happy Jack, and others.

InciWeb the Incident Information System: Arizona Incidents

Fortunately quite a few of these fires are able to be managed to clean up and burn naturally to promote a healthy forest in the coming years. The Jack Fire falls into the category and is under control and moving slowly.

I assume the Happy Jack fire was the one at Blue Ridge reservoir. That one was started by a unattended campfire in a area where no fires are allowed. There has been a lot of controlled burns and thinning in the area and fire was mainly on non federal land (reservoir) and contained to 138 acres. Next time I'm up there hope to check it out if the reservoir is open again. While it may have been only 138 acres depending how many of those were in the canyon and how bad the burn was it could change the quality of the water with the ash runoff once the monsoom starts. Coconino National Forest has campfire restrictions starting tomorrow.

They added to the list, Coronado and Tonto may be added after this weekend.

Fire restrictions begin Wednesday at four AZ national forests
