I've been lurking around this forum for quite a while, mostly in the 60 series section, but having bought a 70 about a month ago, I figured I'd create a little thread here now that I've started playing around with it, maybe find out if there are some other Belgian members here. I already have a HJ61, a Tercel 4WD Wagon and a Lexus LS400, but a 70 had been missing for quite some time. As much as I love my 60, somehow the 70 has always been the quintessential LC to me.

This is a pretty clean example, 220000km, so no major plans, I need to sort out the fog light wiring (it has one but no switch for it), deal with some rust in the right door bottom, check out the motormounts and do some basic maintenance. Really enjoying it so far. It is slow though. So very, very slow. Some pics:

Nice truck! I absolutely love the old school decals.

@yotadude520: love the decals too, my 60 is white with orange striping as well. Sadly I can't find this specific style anywhere anymore, which means I'll have to do some welding to the door bottom instead of just replacing it with a rustfree one I have in my stash.

Any 3B owners here that can shed some light on cold start? Mine needs a tad of throttle at the moment the first few minutes to run smoothly, a few turns of the hand throttle is enough, this is at about 10 celsius/50 fahrenheit. Above about 20 degrees celsius/70 fahrenheit it's fine. Not really familiar with the cold start/idle up system on these.

Pretty normal and I had that with most B and 3B engines when I lived in Belgium. Winter time will be worse then summer nothing to worry about . What part of the country are you living in ? I am from the “kempen” originally.

@joekatana: Originally I'm from Vlaams-Brabant near Oost-Vlaanderen, currently living in Henegouwen near Ath.

@FRQ ....... "Really enjoying it so far. It is slow though. So very, very slow."

Vintage Land Cruisers, especially diesel Land Cruisers are "go slow and enjoy life" kinda vehicles. :)

@Gun Runner 5 : sure, but my HJ61 at least keeps up with traffic nicely, this 75 is a different story, but I bought it as a local runaround, so in that capacity it's not without its charm.

Another question: my 75 doesn't have a factory tach, can I swap in any 24V cluster with tach? What type of pickup does the OEM cluster use for the tach signal, the alternator? Is the electronic part for this integrated in the cluster itself?

On my BJ74, it uses a hall sensor in the bellhousing for the tach. I'm not sure if there is a space for one or if it's already there. It would be about halfway down on the passenger side bell housing with wires coming out.
If thats there, then I imagine you have the wiring to swap clusters. Not sure if Toyota used a different bell housing when going in a tach vs non-tach equipped truck. My guess is that it's there.

Here's a picture of my bell housing, you can see the sensor location on the left side sticking into the bell housing.

As for slow, my 5spd BJ74 does 0-100km 18-19 seconds stock, of course thats a stock turbo direct injected engine. I've heard the 3B is really slow. I wonder what the 3B does 0-100km in...calendar days or sun dial? :D
