Finally got a LC!

I'm from a small town in Alabama and things are a little slower there. I keep wanting to buy a turbo diesel LC and just see if they register it. I know all the clerks at the DMV. It just might work...

I'm right there with you on that one....I think I could get away with it where I live too. They could give a rats ass about how safe a vehicle is around here as long as you are wearing your seatbelt.

Here they are on my 81....

Ya those are real nice. I'll put them on my wish list, lol.

Today I got all 6 brake hoses swapped for new OEM ones. I was told by the shop that did my safety that they didn't have the DOT markings on them so they had to be changed. When I was about 1/2 done I took a closer look at found SAE markings on them, which I'm pretty sure are an equivalent standard to DOT for things like this. I'll be bringing the old hoses back to the shop tomorrow when I get the truck re-inspected, and see what they have to say about that.

I also got the rear diff and TC fluids changed today as well, put Shell Spirax 75w90 synthetic gear oil in both. Found ATF in the rear diff, that's not right. Any chance it could have done any damage? I have no way of knowing how long it's been in there, it looked clean at least.

I'm planning a front axle rebuild in the next couple months, so I left the front diff for now, but I'm worried it could have ATF in it as well...

Nice truck.

Thanks! Yours looks to be in very nice shape as well! I like the rear mounted spare tire carrier, and cargo cover that you got on yours.

Got it cleaned up before a road trip this weekend, and thought I'd snap a few pics quick:

Wow what a beauty! No roof rack, no rear wind deflector, has fridge, 3x locked, diesel, and winch! Drools!

Dirty, filthy, love - we get the "leftovers" here in the States (which ain't that bad!!!) but talk about a natural born killer - wow! Nice rig.....

Snapped a few pics this weekend when the truck was all cleaned up that I thought I'd share, sorry for the iphone quality pics. I've been plugging away at it, got the windows tinted, 7w Cree LED reverse lights, changed the timing belt when it rolled over 100,000kms about a month ago, and been enjoying it.

I've got the parts gathered up to do an OEM 861/862 lift, with Ironman CC bushings if needed. I've also got all the parts to install my EGT/boost/tranny temp gauges and external tranny cooler, and I've started putting Sony 6.5" speakers in the rear doors with lots of fatmat. I still have to get the Lightforce 170's from my old Surf thrown on and wired up as well. I just need some '93+ front calipers and I'll be ready to do a front axle rebuild and front brake upgrade ('93 + calipers & rotors w/ 100 series pads). Lots to keep me busy over winter!

Installed OME 861/862 springs tonight, ended up sticking a 10mm spacer in the front. Gained an inch in the rear, .5" in left front, LOST .25" in right front, even with the spacers! I'm thinking the diesel and winch add a lot of weight in the front? I searched and searched but couldn't find anyone who had installed these on a HDJ81, but came up with nothing, so it was a bit of an experiment I guess.

Rides much better though, firmer than the stock springs, but not harsh. Much less squatting and diving, and less bodyroll. I also took it off the paved road for a quick test, and the body was much more planted, much less movement, much better.

Still on stock e-adjustable struts, always set to firm, the bushings were pretty bombed out when I was under there, so I'll have to address that at some point, might just replace the struts altogether, we'll see. I have Ironman 2deg castor correction bushings that I haven't installed yet, not sure I "lifted" enough to require them, but I'll see how it handles on the highway before I decide. Steering felt a bit dartier than I remember, is that a symptom of not enough positive camber?

I was hoping for at least an inch gain all around, but I bought them mainly for the handling, load carrying improvements, and I guess I got that. I snapped a couple before pics, but it's dark tonight so I'll have to get the after ones tomorrow now. Very easy install with a buddy, so it wasn't a big problem to have to do it 1.5 times to get the spacers in the front.
