Finally got a LC!

Uhhh why is the steering wheel on the wrong side of the vehicle? I've been to Canada several times and I've never seen that kind of set up in a vehicle. Did Japan import them with right-side set ups like that (I realize that Japan has the sw on the right-hand side of the car).

I imported this from Japan myself, hence the RHD. There were no RHD vehicles sold new in Canada.;)

I'm from a small town in Alabama and things are a little slower there. I keep wanting to buy a turbo diesel LC and just see if they register it. I know all the clerks at the DMV. It just might work...

Got home last night, pulled off the 265/70/15's that came on the truck, and threw the new 285/75/16 Duratracs on this morning, makes a HUGE difference in how it looks and drives!

Truck was good on the way home, had to adjust the tranny kickdown cable a bit, as it was shortshifting itself out of the powerband, driveability is much improved after a few small adjustments.

Here's a few before and after pics of the tires:

What wheels did you use? Truck looks great!

The wheels are Bridgestone Nebros, 16x8, 0 offset, they came on the Hilux Surf that I had previously. Thanks!

Sorry about your hilux, but excellent job finding such a nice HDJ :)

Got my Pioneer deck installed last night, nice to have options beyond the iphone via tape adapter for tunes again! I don't think that dash had ever been off before, those plugs were TIGHT, and plentiful!

Update: I changed the headlights over to new DEPO's, corner lamps to amber OEM lense, installed DRL's, and 3rd brake light, and took it in for safety inspection today. Got a call that it passed, with only loose battery clamps, and headlight alignment issues, both fixed already! Got a call 1/2 hour later that the mechanic called the local authority and it now failed due to seatbelts not having the FMVSS or CMVSS tags on them, and the brake hoses not having DOT markings.

I anticipated this, and already have a set of North American seatbelts in a box at home, so that's not a big deal, but I had ordered the brake hoses from Beno, and won't have the parts for 3 weeks or so as I'll need to pick them up at the border, I was going to replace them when I got around to the front axle service. A minor setback, I'll grab some local brake hoses, get the parts swapped, and try again next week I guess.

I also got my Weathertech cargo liner yesterday, fits like a glove!

I don't think I have heard of the seatbelt thing or the brake hoses before, interesting... I though ICBC was the devil but apparently not!

Maybe Canucksafari knows more....

Good to know you will have her up n running soon.

Just outta curiosity why did you go with the amber corners and not the clear LX ones?

Think of MPI as ICBC on steroids, lol. WAY too much power, I wish we had private insurance here so badly.

The whole point of changing the corner lenses was to gain the amber reflector to pass safety, I'm not even sure what the LX450 reflectors look like off the top of my head, but I'm sure they would be harder to find, and time was a factor.

MPI has been a real F'n pain for a number of years. They don't seem to have a clue about the CMVSS or the 15 year rule. The federal 15 year rule means that for Transport Canada that there is not need for CMVSS. If the 81 had the CMVSS tags, then you wouldn't have to wait for it to be 15 years old. But the constitution gives the provinces the right to have the fional word on transportation issues. I doubt you will find a CMVSS stamp on a OEM brake hose for an 80 series. Again just more BS. For a long while they required the same on all lamp lenses despite it being known that JIS coded lenses all met or exceeded the CMVSS.

The guy that started this RHD site RightHandDrive.ca/blog is in Manitoba and knows his way around the 'system' there. He is the one who finally got them to accept JIS coded lights as equal to those recognized by the CMVSS. I recommend you contact Rob before spending more time and money. Good luck.

Ouch that sucks, Guess we shouldn't complain so much lol

They LX ones are clear with a reflector stamped into them on the side... They also have the correct lighting angles so to speak for the turn signals when they light up.

I don't think Onur/Dan Can get them anymore but they were 110 for 2 or if you go to Lexus here your looking at over 300 LOL

I knew the seatbelts could be an issue if I was ever pulled in for a VIU roadside inspection (think travelling tax collector) even if they passed safety initially, so I already have them ('93+ so I'll gain rear shoulder belts as well), just a matter of putting them in. I had also purchased all new OEM brake hoses, as I figured the 21 year old ones had done their time and could use a rest, but I wasn't going to install them right away, seems my timetable has been bumped up, lol. All the lights/lenses passed, so no issues there.

I'll have a look, maybe something to consider down the road, but low on my priority list at the moment.

I know that people have gotten RHDs to pass OOP inspection without changing them. A couple Safaris were inspected and past. Any RHD vehicle which doesn't have a NA counterpart will either have to pass with its original equipment or have to have aftermarket equipment put in. Aftermarket has also been a problem for some inspectors. The bottom line is 'they' want to make it as hard as possible for you to chose what you want to buy and drive. Safety has very little to do with it.

Fully agreed. I went through all this 1.5 years ago when I imported my Surf as well, although the seatbelts/brake hoses weren't flagged at that time.

My local shop called me on some worn out engine accessory belts and worn out windshield wipers. It was rough. :D

Here they are on my 81....
