Not that i wish to break one. I have only myself to blame.

I was winching a jeep  , the rear diff was stuck on a rock on a pretty steap trail. I didn't have a good grip so my truck was going down instead of him going up and over that rock. So i made a stupide mistake, yep, i back up to give a pull so the diff would get over the rock and totally forgot my ARBs were ON. TAC, instantly. :bang:

I don't think i need longfield, i don't think my setup requires them, sure it would be better, that was just a really stupid move from me.

So i got my initation this weekend on removing a axle in the trail. I had to because i couldn't steer left. otherwise i was ok the get out of the trail on 2wd, locked tho.

Howdy! Welcome to the Broken Birfield Bar. You are now officially a member in good standing!! I blew my one and only Birf ( so far) After already blowing up my rear end and trying to drive out on the front only. I replaced it with a stocker for a few weeks til I could get my Longs. I also went with the Longfield inner axle shaft. I carry the stocker for a spare, but hopefully Mr. Longfield will keep me from needing it for a long time. John

:clap:Congrads!!!!!! welcome to the club:D

I have a whole collection of broken birfs and pinions on my "wall of shame" in my shop. I went to Longs and have never looked back.

I'm thinking of maybe just getting longfield and keep my stock inner axle for now. I'm only running 33". Maybe the diesel have too much torque....

I just ordered my Long birfs and inner axels. My plan is to keep the stock set as spares, hopefully never to be needed.

Typical birf carnage i guess?;

that is actually not so typical. Looks like it may have been semi worn out or had a minor problem for some time that allowed the star to stress out at all the thin spots. Not sure but possibly a steering stop issue.

i know the steering stoppers are ajustable but is there a specific setting to adjust them with?

So why is the spindle bushing still on that junk outer axle stub?

Seriously i have no idea and this is exactly what i was asking myself when i got a axle out of a housing i had laying around, that turns out to be longer (from a 60 axle).

So i guess this bushing should be in the hub, and that must indicate something was loose?

possibly damaged housing, for that to come out with the birf?

I thought those bushings needed to be BFH'ed out:hhmm:, I've only removed one set of them that I considered bad, and they didn't just "slip out" as yours seem to have.

You mean the hub where the bushing sits? i will check it carefully when i put something back in, i mean the axle...

Since my axle are screw, i'm leaning toward longfield. Now why should i go with 30 spline or 27 spline longfield. And what else will i have to buy or tweak. I understand some grinding is involved, that is fine. Will me aisin hub fit right on them? Bearings?, obviously i will need a other bushing, can i get that at the dealer, stock fits?

Hi All:

The 27 spline Longfield super set will fit in your axle assembly as direct replacements. If you want to go with the 30 spline super set Longfield also sells replacement Aisen hub gears to fit the 30 spline Longfield CV joints.

All the factory Toyota parts should work with the 27 spline, and most with the 30 spline. The grinding of the knuckle house is minimal - just like two millimeters.

Regards,

Alan

don't the 30 spline longs have the same outer axle spline count as the standard asin hubs, the 30 spline refers to the inner axle - CV spline?

the hub gears just protect the outer axle spline if the asin hub fails

The 30 spline set will work with the stock lockout gear, however, the axle shaft is of a higher quality material that can handle more torque than the stock lockout drive gear. The stock lockout drive gear will fracture and when this occurs, you will strip the splines on your new Longfield outer axle, which, is not a warranty issue, hence why it is recommended that if you upgrade your front axle shafts, that you also upgrade the lockout gear at the same time.

30 spline super set. This will have new inner and outer axle shafts. I would also get the chromo lockout drive gears. Your stock lockouts will work fine, but I would replace the drive gear in them with the gear that Long offers.

Bushing is a stock piece and will fit fine with the Longs, Toyota part number 90999-70067

Thanks i will get the lockout gear also. I hope they didn't ship the order.
