Has anyone here ever made a fiberglass mold over a painted body part or object?

What would you suggest to protect the paint with to keep the resin from sticking to or etching the paint. I've done minor fiberglass repairs on boats, and other fiberglass objects.

I was thinking of the product they MAY use during the laying in of fibreglass to the regular boat hull templates. I'm not sure how they do that. Any information or source would be apprieciated.

rub the hell out of it with mold release, theres also a product who's name escapes me at the moment, ( it's an acronym) that you paint on as a liquid but dries to a plastic film, and later washes off with water. think it's called PVA? (poly-vinyl-acetate?)

or hell, just regular old packing tape works pretty well, slap that on and wax the hell out of it. may be hard to get off the paint later tho.

just don't let the glass get too hot....

Hi Wfd175,
I make my living working with fiberglass and resin. PVA is a good parting agent. You can also get away with a couple of good thick coats of quality past wax, like carnuba.

Just leave it on with the haze, don't buff out. Then apply your gel coat and after that you can start to apply glass and resin.

Good Luck!
Best Regards,
George
