Would this setup handle idle up when a/c is running?

Sniper can handle an A/C idle up, yes; the included harness has a control wire for it.

True, the ECM does a good job of bringing the RPMs up after the compressor loads the engine. I haven't used that wire myself for just that reason. From what I can glean from the manuals, the AC kick circuit causes the RPM to temporarily jump by whatever amount you set it to rather than having the ECU catch up after the Compressor kicks on. We see this in OE controls, so it's neat to see Holley include details like that.

Sniper has literally changed the life of my 60. Drivability is insanely better AND just started after sitting 2 months at 9700' in the cold....FIRST TURN OF THE KEY!!! Simply amazing!!

x2. I'm planning some high altitude trips this spring and summer and am itching to pull the trigger on one of these Holley or FiTech systems to delete what will surely be days full of tuning, but 1st hand info has been sparse. Whatever info you can provide will be helpful, @Jacob Bridges.
I live at 9700', around town is 7500' and immoften at 5000'....since the Sniper conversion...my rigs drivability is AMAZINGLY better....night + day. Highly recommend!!!

@cbmontgo needs to hear all this

Thanks for all the responses. If I am reading correctly, it is not hard to install yourself? If I still have emissions is that a problem?

It is not smog legal so either you hide it in there or you do yourself a favor and ditch all that s*** while you are upgrading.

This is fairly typical feedback I get from the Sniper customers. Here are some other direct quotes:

“This runs like a raped ape!”
“I got a speeding ticket at 8000’!”
“My truck has never run this well since I owned it”

These are not too hard to install oneself.:banana: at most.

The emissions may be an issue. I loosely tried to mock it up, but the air rail seemed to be in the way of the Sniper. There may be a way around this, but take some work. If you are able to remove that stuff, it will make life easy.

I had it done as I'm not very mechanically inclined....we ripped ALL the smog s*** out as I don't have to worry about inspection. Curious as to what my emissions would be post conversion tho and will prlly have it tested just to know. Can't be worse...cannot??? 😂😁🤣😂🤣😁

I do not need emissions for an inspection. However the truck is all original and an 83. I do not have plans to sell currently but you never know. I would like to leave the emissions just in case one day it would go somewhere that require them.
It runs great now but I have all the upgrades it could come with plus some I have added (headlights, radio, etc..) If emissions have to come off not sure I will do it. Thanks for the replies.

Well, once you take off the carb and linkage and install the Sniper it won't be original any more, so why worry about the smog stuff? Keep it all in a box so you could give it to a buyer if you ever do have to sell.

A lot of the smog hardware is likely brittle by now, so I understand your hesitance to try to remove it (we broke 4 of the nozzle pipes during this last desmog even after letting them soak in penetrating oil for a couple days). I agree with Cam's comments in that the rail will likely interfere. However, that's not to say that an adapter can't be fashioned to correct this issue. You're also not going to be the only person with this concern. You could look into seeing what it would take to have an adapter made to allow for the necessary offset, then weigh your costs to make a decision.

You need the air rail for the carb because the carb is incapable of adjust fuel mixture to maintain proper cat operation. The cat needs a rich-lean-rich-lean......mixture in order for the reduction and oxidation beds to work properly. So a sniper should be reacting to the O2 sensor and providing much better mixture cycling resulting in much better cat performance.

True. Depending on their state that may be all that's needed. If a visual is involved then they'd get ding'd for missing equipment.

That’s true. Though you could probably setup a dummy rail and leave all the smog stuff in place so it looks like it’s doing something bit is in fact just a prop

Sounds like this feature could possibly be used instead of a hand throttle for OBA, winching, etc.
