I have a 69 fj40 with 350 sbc with a SM420 and stock transfer case.
Issue=
I have air actuated transfer case. What should be the pull knob configeration when not engaged in 4 wheel drive?
I thought both knobs were supposed to be pushed in to disengage transfer case? Well, The truck wont move if I dont leave the passenger side one pulled out.

Also I thought one knob was for 4wd hi and both knobs pullled was for 4wd low?

I am not sure if it has to do with the transfer case or not but I can only get to about 40 mph top speed.
Is this normal with a Sm420, 410 gears, and 35s?

All info would be greatly appreaciated

Thanks

Make sure your "FD" button/knob is pushed in toward the dash. That is the only knob you use for that system,is your TC shifter still in the dash or on the floor? Once you pull that FD knob out you should be in 4-high(if the shifter is in the 4H position) I remember it being up against the dash for 4H,then shift it down for N,then way back for 4L ? Does that sound right guys,it's been a long time!

This is the Knob that I thought had to be pushed into the dash in order to disengage the transfer case. As you can see it is currently pulled out from the dash. If I push it in it the vehicle wont move.

You are in low range. With my 35s (that I used to have) and 4.10s I could cruise at 75mph. My tranny was a cruiser 4spd, then a SM465 which BOTH have the same final drive as your sm420 which is 1:1 in fourth gear.
