Hello all you Happy people,

Looking for some input please. I have recently been thinking of trading my FJ40 or maybe even selling it and buying an FZJ80.

I stumbled across one on CL a few days ago and have been kicking it around. THe one on craigslist looks nice and clean however has 230k miles on it and that is kinda a drawback for me because i dont want to trade my 40 for something that may leave me hating life and spending alot of $ in repairs right off the bat.

I have an April of 1970 FJ40 that I love so much. I never thought I would consider letting it go, however I work 12 hour days and start at 5 in the AM. Even summer mornings can be cool at that hour. SO my 40 just sits most of the time and I bought a lil Honda to commute in. I am thinking that the 80 may be a little more comfortable to get to work and back and also take anywhere off road i could want to go. My 40 is a pig with a V8 and dose love to drink gas as well. I did just buy a hard top and hard doors for it and they are in the paint shop right now.

Id like input on what yall think my rig is worth (priceless to me) and what a good trade vehilcle would consist of. Also what you think of the 80 I am already looking at..??

I would also be interested if there are any Mudders that are near me (SO CAL) that are looking for this kind of trade.

AGAIN I am kicking this idea around at this time. I will post pics of the one I am looking at as well.

Please feel free to comment or inquire.

Thanks in advance for your time!

SoCal and complaining about "chilly" mornings. So, it was like... in the 60s?

It was -15 here last week with 12" of snow overnight.

And yeah, my 80 rescued some dumb kid who tried to drive down a 2 tracked road in a Camry on low-pro 18" tires. -15 below, 12" of fresh snow, and he's got 1/8th of a tank of gas, a hoodie and a knit cap.

PS. I'm just bustin' balls. But yeah, I'd keep that 40

:clap:All good man Bust away. yeah I figured someone would chime in on the ol so cal chilly thing............

GAS was the other factor in the equasion as well as getting an older 60's Chevy Truck I have wanted for a while now.

Figure im getting about 9 MPG........if that lol.

Still havent met up with the guy. Ive been working nights ++ had Honda problems....:bang:

& we havent been able to hook up.

I DO LOVE MY 40..............but theres alot of them on CL and here and there. FZJ80's looks like only a handful of them for sale here in Cali right now, & only a couple nice ones.

Just sayin.....:meh:

Thanks again for the advice!!!

Well, I finally made it over and met up with "the dude" The 80 was nice and clean, inside, out, underneath, and it rode like a cadillac. Was terribly slow compared to what im used to but, I have other vehicles for speeding around.........

Thats it. That thing ruined me. I gotta have one. I'll be putting my beloved FJ40 up for sale soon. Tried CL for a few but got a few tire kickers, and ......undesirables if you know what I mean.........

I Plan on selling my 40, trying to buy dudes 80 (he was looking for something more stock & quieter for hunting) Hopefully I will have a bundle of Ca$h left over to do a bunch of Maintenance to it and replace/rebuild anything that might need it. I did contact Mr. powderpig aka Robbie already to inquire about some options.

Thanks for the advice on NOT selling the 40, but like my parents always used to say, "YOU NEVER LISTEN!!"

If I regret it and want another FJ40. Ill buy one. pure and simple.

IF my rig does not sell quick, like I think it might, Ill just keep it, sell something else and plow on. I think I can get that FZJ80 in the pics for about 6k.

If it happens ill post up. Anyone with interest feel free to contact me.

Thanks & Cheers

.....<<<...See if you can make sense of this........Sold the rig this past Saturday. 10k. I will miss her.

Bought my first 80, from a mechanic, a 1994 FZJ LOCKED & Center Diff mod + + + + + well look at the pics. 6.5k have a bunch of cash left over,.....just like i said. Enough to get 5 new Toyos, A Bumpin system, & order some front axle parts, && STILL have some left over.

Not too hard to understand. LOL:flipoff2:

Im one happy Mo FO right now. Thanks to any and all who expressed interest. Ill post up some more pics of her Cleaned up, after i get the new tires and powder coat the wheels and install. Cheers!

Hey, that's my coworker who got your 40. He's pretty stoked to get it after selling his 4Runner.

Hey Don, WOW well very cool.!!! He seemed like a great guy. Cool father/son project as I hear they both have one now and are gonna work on them together. Sad to let go of one vehicle,......but at least he got into another, & a cool one to boot. The Cruiser wasn't perfect but a solid buy and starting point for him. He mentioned that he had a buddy with the vehicle that I wanted..................when I told him maybe I should just trade with him,.....HE clammed up and said, hell NO!!!!!!!!

I would like to make it up there and visit you guys. See what real "Toyota Boys" are up to. Must be nice to have access to the lifts and a parts counter on tap

Me and a budd might try and make it up to that swap meet up towards you guys in a couple weeks i believe. Maybe we will see you there!
Thanks for saying hello.

Cool, and yes, we plan to be at the Bakersfield Land Cruiser Rally & Swap Meet on April 26. There's also the one in Stockton on April 12, but I won't be going.

Cool deal Don. Maybe we will see you guys there! Take care!
