Yeah that truck is nice, but it could definitely use a newer lump.

I like my 12ht but it's a bit too rare of a bird these days.

Yours is a known quanity too, as you've had it a while and already rebuilt. You drive it super easy too; doesn't get any better really.

I don't want to spend $34k and still have to do rebuild. Towing is the wild card; just punishing for any of these old motors.

Just got back from Ucluelet, that windy ass road isn't particularly kind to it either, slow corners followed by steep hills. In the summer the traffic would make a guy pretty unpopular 🤣

I figure I've got maybe 2 more years of driving the 60. If I end up going to 5 days a week, I'll get something more civilized.

Hell I might do it sooner too.

Then the question becomes what to do with it, finally make it the donor I bought it to be 12 years ago or ....

I drive my cruisers for just the driving experience and the love of the cool. My 12 valve does all the towing and LOVES it!!! Its amazing the way the Cummins just delivers torque. It sounds so mean and happy towing 10000+ pounds.

Oh ya, and s*** kicking the Bj60 and she always gets you home.

couldn't see the sarcasm if it smacked you guys in face!
The newest Landcruiser I ever owned was my ‘77 45. Newest I’ve driven (at a car lot) was an ‘82 Bj60. I have no idea what useless things they added and in what year. Leaf sprung, round headlights, and no tech… just the way these tractors were designed. I don’t need no new fangled stuff,,, bah humbug.

;)

That's about how I feel with my 40 thing. Just fun.

With the 60, I feel like one of the last guys driving one because he's a cheapass. 🤣

Seriously tho, it's hard to find a single vehicle that does what it does.

Decent mileage, tons of space to haul s***, good in snow, can tow a moderate amount, reliable for decades...(long since paid for lol )

Most things I browse can tick a couple of those boxes, but not all of them.

I'd say a commuter for half the year and 60 in winter, but I've found it doesn't like being parked for any length of time. Meh. I'll keep putting off the decision until something changes 😵‍💫

Sure, but you daily a much newer car right? Prius and Ford?

For me throwing $34k to a unfinished 40 year old cruiser project just doesn't make sense (maybe if it was $10k...). Much smarter to put that kind of money into something newer that can do what is need right out of the box. Not to say I don't love old cruisers. But to be fair no one in this VI forum has put out that kind of money purchasing their cruiser either....

It's Pending... 🤷‍♂️

Even though it's a decent looking truck, $34k is outside of my budget. In the last 34 years, I've put less than 1/2 that into mine. I'm probably only into it for $14k. I'd put a few more $$$ into mine long before buying someone else's project.

How difficult would it be to put an 80 series frame under a 60? Would you have to use the 60 series axles under the new frame?

TrailTaylor sells a kit. Look him up in vendors list. He is running a continual thread on this conversion in the 60 series forum.
It's a valid idea and converting to coils is a big bonus. Handling and offroad advantages. I don't know if he uses 60 axles,
I think he does so people can convert their existing truck just with add-on parts. I never looked as it is not cheap and
just never saw advantages enough - read: Not enough money for everything. If I only had a single truck, I'd think different.

If you had an 80 frame with axles and suspension I doubt it'd be that hard.

Move some brackets around on the frame.

I think the wheelbase is similar, if not , then more brackets to move. Then a crap load of little things.

Donor 80s aren't cheap tho, so I don't know if I'd bother over just getting an 80. :meh:

Back in ‘92, I bought rear springs off a 60 series frame from a project that went a different route. If I had a do over, I’d buy the 60 series frame and build my 40 on top of it… rather than the 40 series frame I bought shortly afterwards. But that’s not how time works… and who knows… I may have scrapped the whole project and bought a Jeep instead.
Now I’d love to stretch my wheel base 5”, stretch the tub & hardtop 12”, and have a 43. However, life is far too busy to undertake a project like that. Once I have time to do that, fuel may be a distant memory.

Put that down up front or in total? 😂😅

Old Saying....
I spent all my money on Beer and Land Cruisers, the rest I just wasted.
