I like the freeze dried pear desserts.

any MRE with cheese is yucky

I liked the BBQ
Beef
Chicken MRE's

we used them on canoe trips in the wilderness, and got them at the sporting supplies store

the brownies are good, and I agree, the breakfast is terrible, only ever had one of those - no problems with the s***s or so :meh:

The worst one i ever came across all the time was Chicken ala King, otherwise known as Chicken ala Puk. There was another one that once you opened it up you would have Fat just looking at you. That was another one that was a no go. Good ones started coming out about 5 years ago or so. The ones back in the 80's needed that tobasco sauce.

Agreed. Except I think the old hot dogs were the absolute worst. The new ones are wayyyyy better.

Just don't use the heater pack in a confined space, especially if you are a smoker. There's been instances of the small amount of hydrogen gas igniting. Want to try it? Just wait until the steam is coming out of the package and light it OUTSIDE.

Aww, the old franks and beans. Labeled for not for preflight or inflight use. Got a good laugh out of that because that was the one i always got before a jump.. Never did anything to me that i know of. But don't ask the wife that one.

1st gen, dark brown plastic bag - ham and eggs. Loved 'em!

Before that, C-rats - the albacore tuna was great!

When I lived in Cairns, North Queensland, I had a case of MREs that fell off the back of a visiting US destroyer. I used them as cyclone preps but I tried a few of them on camping trips. You can feel yourself getting fatter with each mouthful. I bet PT is a big part of US military life. LOL

I found the grilled beef patty to be interesting... C'mon, who paints on grill marks with brown food colouring?

I had a chicken patty I used to keep in my desk drawer at work (unopened). Freaked out the sheep I was working with when they saw this vacuum-sealed hunk of meat in an MRE pouch. On my last day I opened it up and we all had a little taste. Not too bad at all.

I've still got a bunch of accessory items and a couple of entrees left, but Aussie MRE-style 24 hour combat ration packs are better.

We get a bunch for the wildland trucks and tenders - not too bad really. I highgrade a couple of the better sounding ones from time to time to throw in the toolbox in case of dire emergency. I'm sure they are much better than jackrabbit :D

Meals Refusing to Exit

Soooo "effing" true!!!

I use them on multiple day elk hunts. Nothing guarantees that you won't have your back up against an aspen with a bad case of the hersheys like an MRE. Rear Exit closed for business for 2 or 3 days.

That being said, I liked the Fiesta Chicken and Spanish rice (or whatever that one is called)

Chemical water/oven still amazes/scares me...

Whaaaat? The old hot dogs were the bomb! Five fingers of death:D. Actually I did like them. Ham Slice. and the Bean and Cheese burrito. Mainly because as a grunt you rarely get to heat them. its always a tactical stop, yyour team leader says eat, you get your main course out of the cargo pocket, opened up and then the LT is calling move out. SO, the ones without SAUCE go back in your cargo pocket so much better.

amazing

I never would have guessed that there are people out there who liked MREs. I always thought of them as "better than eating roadkill".

live and learn
